Rich Rodriguez leaving his offensive coordinator role at Louisiana-Monroe to head up Jax State, who is moving to FBS and C-USA.

He had West Virginia rolling there for a few years.

Alabama hired Rich Rod. He accepted. The next morning he had a change of heart. Alabama hired Saban.

Its a famous story. Via ESPN ...

West Virginia, meanwhile, was in the midst of three consecutive 11-win seasons under Rodriguez, who felt like he had the talent coming back in Morgantown to compete for a national championship in 2007.

"I left New York and went back to West Virginia and we were getting ready to play in the Gator Bowl, so I had a press conference in Jacksonville for the bowl game, and that day was when a couple of the boosters put together a proposal," Rodriguez recounted. "I told them I couldn't believe they got everything together so quickly because it was millions of dollars of stuff for the program. I was humbled by it and told Alabama I was staying."

Later that day, Moore did what every athletic director dreads and publicly announced that Rodriguez had indeed rejected Alabama's offer and was staying put at West Virginia.

He almost got that title in '07 that he thought he had a shot at.

Making Rodriguez's exit even worse was the 13-9 upset loss to bitter rival Pittsburgh in the 2007 regular-season finale, a loss that cost the Mountaineers a shot at the national championship. West Virginia was ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings going into that game and a 28-point favorite.

Michigan got him after the 2007 season and his career went sideways

He agreed but he never signed the papers and left his lawyer hanging in Tuscaloosa.....not technically hired.

Update from WIKI: On December 7, 2006, Rodriguez received an offer from the University of Alabama to be the next Alabama Crimson Tide head coach. Despite reports that he had agreed in principle to coach at Alabama,[11] which Rodriguez described as totally incorrect,[12][13] on December 8, 2006, Rodriguez announced he would remain as head coach at West Virginia.[14]

I hope the other 15K posts you made were not as full of falsehood as this title.

His wife likes Jacksonville, not Tuscaloosa.

Neither did Mike Price.

OP made an intentional, cute little joke. Not sure why so many are having a problem with it.

I remember he had been offered the job but had forgotten he accepted and then later turned it down.

Reminds me of the guy from Kansas that was offered the job at Georgia by Vince Dooley then turn it down the next day. Glen Mason was his name. He went on to have some success at Minnesota.

I recall that a younger Rich Rod was a very handsome man when he coached at WVU.

The eyes. The jawline. Good grief. I'm gay.

From almost coach of the Tide to OC at OM who apparently thought Plumlee was a better QB than Corral despite having a stellar receiver corps.
