I went to State-Alabama and LSU-Ole Miss once back in the early 90s. Ticket was like $20 for both games and you could buy them at Jitney Jungle. It was.a really cool tradition.

Some years USM was involved as one of the opponents for State or Ole Miss, but most years it was an SEC doubleheader. State regularly played Alabama, Florida and LSU in Jackson. Ole Miss played Auburn, Kentucky and LSU in Jackson.

The best game in that stadium was in '77 when Ole Miss upset Notre Dame.

Maybe the hottest game Ive ever been to was in Jackson, MS. AU vs Ole Miss (circa 1990). Must have been 100 degrees. Brutal.

I was there in 1990. I've been to over 150 Auburn games and that was, by far, the hottest game I've ever attended. I almost passed out just watching Pat Sullivan signal in plays wearing that orange windbreaker. I have no idea how Sully didn't have a heat stroke that day.

I remember several Sept games in Jackson where they ran out of drinks by halftime.

I was at that Ole Miss ND game it was brutally hot and had at least 2 people in our sextion pass out from the heat.

On the double header weekend we would park under the trees on the NE side of the stadium and tailgate. I barely remember those days from the 60s

Would be an amazing doubleheader if it were done today (obviously not in Jackson though)

I remember those days. It wasn't as awesome as it could be today. The crowds were great, but nobody wanted to hang around downtown Jackson and tailgate.

They could book the double-header, then close off State street back to the top of the hill where Pig-n-Pint sits. Make that whole area a giant street party and I'd pay good money to attend

Of course, you have to hope it's one of the weekends that Jacksons water is actually working #thirdworldinfrastructure

I would say the best game was state 6 bama 3 ,stopping the tide's 28 game winning streak.

The last time one of the Big3 played in Jackson would have been the 1994? Ole Miss-Arkansas game. I worked at UMC and it was a nightmare to get in and out of. I never remember any of the Big 3 competing in Jackson on the same day though. It was always either State/Ole Miss and then a SWAC/SWAC game afterwards. The SWAC schools always complained that we tore the fields up too much.

I think the OM/State SEC double headers were done sometime in the early 80's. State started playing Bama in Starkville around the mid-80's instead of Jackson. Our only home games in Jackson in the late 80's were against LSU, USM and OM. The last time we played football in Jackson was against both LSU and OM in 1990. All home games were in Starkville beginning in 1991.

I was at this game also. I stood in line from the beginning of halftime until midway through the 3rd quarter to get a large coke which I drank before I got back to my seat.

In the 80's there was one State/OM doubleheader. In 1981 State played Florida an ABC, and that night OM played Arkansas on ESPN. most of the 80's/early 90's it was Ole Miss/SWAC dhers.

There was a doubleheader when we played LSU in Jackson in 1990. I was at that game. JSU and Alcorn played that evening after our game.

I went to numerous DH’s at Memorial Stadium in Jackson during the 70’s-80’s.
Great memories. My Dad had a couple of friends w/Travel Trailers and they would pull out to the stadium on Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday.

1975 OM-LSU afternoon / State-Bama that night was a memorable Saturday.
1979 State-Florida/OM-USM another one.
1981-State-Florida/OM-Arkansas (before the SEC).
That is just scratching the surface. Attended quite a few over the years.

An unusual DH in 1973. Saw the Egg Bowl that afternoon and that night Meridian High played Jackson-Murrah in the Capital Bowl. (Meridian won 20-0).

Sadly, like Legion Field in BHM, Memorial Stadium in JAN has seen its better days. But memories will live on a lifetime for me.

State last played there in 1990 (LSU) and for OM it was in the mid-late 90’s when they played their last home game. Coach Jackie Sherrill (rightly so) wanted all the home games on campus and that started in 1991 for State.

Well, in 1991 we played our home game against Florida in Orlando. Sherrill was pissed about that, and all home games have been in Starkville since then.

That had already been scheduled but I agree it was a stupid decision back then .
Yes I remember he was hot about that.

I did not mean to slight that game but that the last Jackson Home games were in 1990.

We had also played a Florida "home" game in Tampa in 1989. If you want to know another crazy scheduling issue, our AD for some reason agreed to play Auburn at Auburn for three straight years in the late 80's.

I was there in '64 or '65 for the night cap (Ala/Miss. St)...LSU/Ole Miss was the day game.
