I've said all along Leach would deep down want out of Starkville as soon as he woke up.

And I think I've been right all along.

MSU is a better job than Wazzu. It ain’t that hard to figure out.

Nobody goes to MS State with intentions of staying.
He wants to be Mullen 2.0 and replace Jimbo in AggyLand.

Meh. They're about equal. Both are two of the historically worst P5 programs in the country, and Pullman and Starkville are also two of the most boring, desolate, godforsaken towns with a major college in it.
I'd say Wazzu is a "better job" because there's less competition in conference and less pressure to win

Pullman has great hiking, skiing, bike riding etc and is surrounded by natural beauty. They are both isolated though.

We can't all be a paradise like Baton Rouge

I got broken from walking on my first sales job in college, skiing is boring after you've visited all the famous sites here and in Europe and I threw my bike down when I bought my first truck for $50. in 8th grade. You can win some and do it for a time at State (some folks have) and maybe only Leach could win at Wazzu.

The great Mike Price - who was undefeated at Alabama - had a winning record at Wazzu.

It’s a great fit. Mike Leach and the average MSU fan are very similar. Also I can see him relating very well to high school players in MS and throughout the south.

Jackie Sherrill 2.0 minus the A&M conference championships and the probation?
quote:
Jackie Sherrill era (1982–1988)
On January 19, 1982, Jackie Sherrill was hired away from Pittsburgh by A&M as the replacement for Tom Wilson, signing a record six-year contract over $1.7 million.[50] Sherrill was the head coach of the Texas Aggies for seven seasons, from 1982 to 1988.[51]
While head coach at A&M, Sherrill started the tradition of the "12th Man Kickoff Team", this tradition is still observed by A&M today only in a significantly scaled back form, including a single walk-on rather than an entire return team unit.[52] In Sherrill's seven seasons, A&M compiled a 52-28-1 record.[51] A&M also won three consecutive Southwest Conference championships during Sherrill's tenure, in 1985, 1986 and 1987.[51] As a result, the Aggies played in the Cotton Bowl Classic at the end of each season, defeating Auburn 36–16 on January 1, 1986[53] and Notre Dame 35–10 on January 1, 1988,[54] and losing to Ohio State 28–12 on January 1, 1987.[55] He is also one of the few coaches to leave Texas A&M with a winning record against the Longhorns, winning his last five against Texas after losing his first two. However, he only won two out of seven games versus Texas A&M's other conference rival, Arkansas, in that same time span.
In 1988, Texas A&M was put under probation by the NCAA for a period of two years. Violations included improper employment, extra benefits, unethical conduct and lack of institutional control.[56][57] Sherrill was not personally found guilty of any infractions. However, in December 1988, Sherrill resigned.

They still lost at least two games every year.
1985: 10-2
1986: 9-3
1987: 10-2

By your definition, so is Auburn.

Is Pullman really that bad?

Blasphemy!
I’d choose Pullman over Starkville any day (from someone who grew up in Starkville).

Pullman is in a very scenic part of the country, but even Starkville area has some of the things you mentioned.

I live in Portland, and have been to both. I would actually take Starkville. The COL is much more affordable in Starkville, and the weather and culture can't be beat. Believe it or not but I believe Starkville is more diverse too.

There is something to be said for that. Washington State is used to being the second banana in their state, and that isn't an insult to Wazzu. Seattle, Washington is a pretty darn temping place to go to school compared to Pillman.
So at Washington State if you do alright the fans are pretty darn pleased. Leach lost to multiple FCS teams during his stay up there and they still liked him. He would have been drawn and quartered down here for that.
Moo State has to play Bama, Auburn, and LSU every year. They also get Arkansas and Ole Miss, two teams that are down now but will bounce back sooner or later. Add in "great one week, drizzling poo the next" Texas A&M and you've got a rough schedule to get through.
Recruiting wise Wazzu is going to get its pick of the students that Washington doesn't want and probably be able to steal a few California recruits every year. State has to fight tooth and nail with Ole Miss while Southern Miss vacuums up all the second tier recruits. All while the states around Mississippi are fishing for a few recruits to steal.
The one thing that has worked for State is the horde of Jr. College players in state. But what used to be the best kept secret in college football is out in the open now and everyone is looking to sign those kids.
TL;DR version... State is in a much tougher conference with more competition for recruits. It is a place a lot of decent coaches have wound up with bad records. I wish Leach the best of luck there but it is hard place to win.

I agree. I have always said I would take the FSU job as a coach before I would take the Florida job, even if it paid less. ACC Schedule and the administration and local police aren't all up your arse all the time. Sign me up.
