The Sugar Bowl used to be a big deal but man it is a shell of itself currently. The playoff killed some of it. I wish it was still prestigious.

The Rose on the other hand is still considered extremely important to the Big 10 and Pac 12. The players were crying last night after winning the Rose like they had just won a title.

I understand this was bound to happen with playoffs lessening bowls but I wish the Sugar was still as big a deal to us as the Rose still currently is to its tie in conferences.

Byproduct of the pac12 not sending many teams to the playoffs.

The SEC champs never play in the Sugar Bowl because they are in the playoffs.

The PAC12 champ still plays in the Rose Bowl because they never make the playoffs.

Simple to figure out my brother.

The SEC champion has been involved in the title game 13 of the last 14 years. So most years we are sending a runner up or worse there.

The rose bowl continues to get at least one conference champ from the Big Ten and Pac12, sometimes both.

It’s because of tie ins. The SEC and ACC want to win a national title. The Big 10 and PAC12 know they cannot so lower their sights and pretend the Rose Bowl is an accomplishment.

ETA
A lot of media meme era are from PAC 12 and BIG 10 schools. They pump it up too

I cant believe the Sugar got kicked back so late last night.

the second half started at 11 for some.

ESPN has neutered the shite out of it in favor of the Rose.

One is a beautiful stadium in a beautiful setting.
The other isnt.

Other reasons as well, but the sugar is still prestigious, right behind the Rose and Orange.

It’s simple. Expectations down here in the south are to make the playoffs, anything short of playoffs is a failed season (to most teams).

It’s the Big 12 tie in.

I can remember when the Orange was the big deal. Normally Oklahoma or Nebraska vs.... but the big draw for TV was the halftime show which was something of a spectacle....that has disappeared.

Old Mess played in a Sugar Bowl recently. That should tell you all you need to know.

The playoff killed all of it. Bowl season isn’t what it used to be. They made the playoff to make CFB more interesting and it’s done the opposite. If you’re team isn’t in the top 4, nobody cares. The interest in CFB is dying and the new playoff system is the noose

The Orange is not remotely prestigious, never really has been.

It's an extra few weeks of practice and a reward for the fans and that's about it. Of course I'd much rather be playing in Southern California than New Orleans, or Florida, or Nashville (or Birmingham).

Sugar just got a bad draw this year. Cut the conference ties and allocate teams to NY6 based on match ups and who is going to travel
