Question: What did you see on the two special teams’ plays that loomed large in the game?
Leach: I don’t know if it was the right call (leaping). I think we just pushed the field goal. I didn’t see the leaping, that’s pretty detailed for me to see. You got to take the ball if they want to give it back to you.

Question: When they went to the four-man front in the red zone did that cause you some issues?
Leach: No. not really.

Question: What did you see on the onside kick to challenge it?
Leach: Last week, they automatically reviewed that play without a challenge. I was kind of stunned this one was not. I don’t know what all went into that. There are a lot of moving parts. According to the rule book, you can review all aspects of an onside kick. I was hopeful that’s what they decided to do.

Didnt he call a timeout after an injury timeout?

Sounds pretty normal coming from him.

I know he challenged a play that had no chance of being over turned and it cost him his last timeout. He could have had a shot at a return and maybe a hail mary, or short pass lateral thing. Low percentage success rate, true, but still better than zero. He marches to a different drum and is funny at times for it. But he was downright retarded Saturday.

What kind of pirate DOESN'T coach drunk?

He is a raging alcoholic so this theory might not be that far fetched

He's been a "has been" for over 10 years now. I knew he would fail miserably in the SEC

Leach is old school. He has a few drinks before the game and at halftime. The Bear was hammered most Saturdays while coaching. True story

Worked out ok for him except for in retirement

Maybe he doesn't know as much football as folks assume

When State hired him, I predicted two years, three years max, and OUT.
State actually thought that getting him was a big coup.

On leaping the wall- The punter moved to the right. The rusher thought he had a clear path and went for it. The wall defender moved to his right to engage the leaping rusher. Is that still leaping the wall?
On the onside kick- neither team can block until the ball has gone 10 yds. LSU blocked Marks, then the ball hit him. They called it on review last week. They didn’t call it this week. Leach was looking for a do-over.

The dude literally tried to jump over his blocker. He broke the rule, no question about it.

I could be wrong as I haven't read the rule in awhile but I believe the "no blocking" part only applies to the kicking team.

I agree about the leaping call. It was a super dump play. Leach addressed that play earlier as a teaching moment and not something that needed discipline. He said that it would be an issue if the player had a history of dumb plays.
No contact until the ball goes 10 yds and becomes live. We had that reviewed against us in the bowl game last year, but we were OK on the block. That play is what led to the brawl after the game. Our LB leveled a Tulsa guy.

I checked the rule again, it seems to only state that the kicking team can't block.
quote:
No Team A player may block an opponent until Team A is eligible to touch a free-kicked ball.
Says nothing about Team B.

This is correct. In this case LSU is allowed to legally block MSU however MSU was not allowed to block LSU. State fans aren’t smart enough to understand this

Les Miles founded the art of looking around the stadium like you just woke up from a coma and you aren't sure how you got where you are, but Leach has truly perfected it.
