Is there any reason why we should think any less of UK than we did a week ago?

I mean, you guys were a dark horse to win the East. You probably still have the best offensive line in the country. If your coaches hadn’t called such a shittt game you would have had a chance to win. Is there any reason why we should think less of you than we did last week? You did lose to a top ten team on the road - one of the Big Six at that.

They made enough mistakes for us to make enough plays to win.

The fake punt was dumb.

QB flat drops ball on run.

They ran the ball good enough to win. They stopped the run good enough to win.

Time of possession advantage could not overcome 3 turnovers and the fake punt.

Long season with lots of football left.

Kentucky made bad mistakes, but let's not forget the officials took the lead from us mid game. Huge momentum shift.

They were gonna win until the refs hosed them

But seriously I didn’t watch, one note though:

Does this actually matter this year? Only way I could see it mattering is giving teams who have artificial turf an advantage since they are used to it.

I wasn’t overly impressed with their offense. Auburn is good on D this year but Kentucky turned the ball over three times and rushed for 3.5 yards per carry on forty attempts, so I don’t agree that they ran the ball well enough to win. I get the bad call on the goal line didn’t help, but Terry Wilson followed that up by throwing a pick 6 two players later that was retroactively canceled once they found targeting, so that evens out.

Playing poor offense like they did isn’t good enough to beat Florida and Georgia and win the SEC East.

Kentucky had better offensive stats then Auburn in every category Had more rushing, passing and total yards. UK was 12/19 in 3rd down efficiency...78 total plays compared to Auburn 57 and Kentucky dominated the time of possession.

Th turn overs killed us. We were 1/3 in the red zone with Terry coughing up 2 turnovers.

How in the hell did the replay bunch screw up the Kentucky TD? Just for future reference, that kind of stuff is scary bad.

Shame Eddie Gran couldn't commit to that.

So AU fans before the game were acting like UK was a shite program and didn't understand how anyone could think UK could win. Now that they've beat them they're pumping them up like it was a great victory?

shite that never happened for 500, Alex.

Now, did most of us say it's dumb to think that UK was a lock to win? Yes. Which it very obviously was.

Yeah. . . except there were multiple threads from AU fans asking why people thought UK could pull off the upset. If it was one AU fan like MsGarrison then I'd agree with you. I think even the OG of this thread was one of them.

Terrible QB play. Kentucky football is bad again.

It's easy to gain more yards when you run 21 more plays than the other team. It's all about efficiency: Auburn Averaged more yards per play and converted more scoring chances while not turning the ball over. Kentucky wasted chances to score and wasn't efficient on a down-by-down basis. That's why UK's offense wasn't impressive.

Kentucky ran the ball 40 times and only averaged 3.5 YPC. That isn't a good mark. Your math is correct but with that little room for error you see a lot of three and outs averaging 3.5 YPC.

We were actually 12/20 on 3rd down. We're actually 3rd in the country behind Ole Miss and Alabama in completion percentage.

This is what killed UK. That, combined with some poor coaching decisions.

I will add that Auburn has had very good defensive red zone numbers for the past 2 or 3 seasons though. Teams can move the ball between the 20s fairly well. But Steele adjusts and tightens everything up in the RZ. Just look at the LSU game last season. They had numerous chances to pull away but ended up kicking figs or turning it over on downs.

You're also 46th in the country in yards per carry and 44th in yards per game (out of 72 teams).

NCAA College Football FBS Current Stats

Again, 3.5 (3.63 according to the NCAA, I think I was taking away sack yards) is not a good number and doesn't beat good teams.

I’m not sure that’s possible
