Pretty sure Steve Shaw, Head of Officiating, is a Univ. of Ala. guy.

And he doesn't officiate any Bama games because of that. Nice try.

Each schools Athletic Department had to sign off on the schedules, including LSU's.

Yes. And there is no oversight or veto power or any sort of balance whatsoever. tSEC is at Bama's mercy.

No it started under Bear when Bama would magically get an extra SEC game against Vandy so there was no chance they would have to share the SEC Title.

Well it's a good thing that Alabama rarely lost SEC games when Bryant was head coach then. Very seldom was there any doubt who the best team in the conference was when he was in Tuscaloosa.

Is the SEC Office Really Full of Bama Grads/Fans? From just browsing, these are the staff members that I found schools for. Mike Slive- Attended Dartmouth, UVA, and Georgetown. Greg Sankey- Attended SUNY and Syracuse. Mark Womack- Attended Alabama. Charles Bloom- Attended South Carolina. Debbie Corum- Attended Vanderbilt. Mark Whitworth- Attended Asbury and Tennessee. Leslie Claybrook- Attended Alabama. Gil Grimes- Attended Birmingham Southern, St. Thomas University, and Alabama. Charlie Hussey- Attended Ole Miss and UAB. Craig Mattox- Attended Auburn and UAB. Peggy Blake- Attended Baylor. Craig Pinkerton- Attended Kansas State. B.C. Romano- Attended Alabama. Chuck Dunlap- Attended Mississippi State and UAB. Tammy Wilson- Attended UCF. Sean Cartell- Attended UNC, Southern Miss, and Kentucky. Marianne Jenkins- Attended Auburn. Chevonne Mansfield- Attended St. Johns and Maryland Eastern Shore. Tre Stallings- Attended Ole Miss. C.M. Newton- Attended Kentucky. Larry Templeton- Attended Mississippi State.

This is really helpful. Thanks.

This is the first time I've seen a list like this in one of these threads. Usually all I see are Bama fans calling everyone who disagrees with them or dares question them an idiot and LSU/other fans saying there is a conspiracy. That is why I asked for facts.

Facts are given. The assertion is proven untrue.

3 guys that attended Alabama hardly means that the SEC office is full of Bama grads. Thanks for answering.

Serious question.

The answer you are seeking is yes, scheduling of conference games falls to a department that reports to a UA grad, and no, he is not allowed to make these decisions on his own. The actual schedules were computer generated by an outside third party, and were made to ensure all teams had an equal number of home games.

FWIW, he also oversaw scheduling in 1991-1992 when Alabama was forced to play back-to-back games in Baton Rouge to ensure the same equitable distribution of home games, although I don't remember the LSU fans being quite as upset about that anomaly.

I wasn't saying anything about Tennessee. OP asked for facts, so I was just supplying one. However, I do think LSU has a legitimate beef about their and Bama's cross-division opponents in 2012 and 13, which were not rotated - but stand-alone schedules (ie, arbitrary).

I agree that Alabama has had 3 difficult regular season games the past 2 years and they are 1-2 in them. But, I don't think that Alabama bias in the SEC office is the problem. I think that Tennessee being terrible for so long is the problem.

i like the fact that you presented this topic as a question rather than as an internet fact. and, if you can wade through the bullsh#t in this thread, there are some real answers to it. good thread

Different circumstances. Alabama was bad because of sanctions. Tennessee is bad by natural selection. 100 years from now their fossils will be discovered throughout the southeast.

The higher ups in the SEC have very little educational connections to SEC schools and are what you might call "national" hires for the most part. You don't end up in positions like that because you are a rabid football fan. The SEC is basically nice sized corporation and If any of the higher ups could earn 50% more for another conference, school, or entity, they would do it and move on out of town. These are not people like us who live on sports message boards. These are mostly the kind of people who went to schools without major sports programs and spent a lot of time in the library.

Support staff, secretaries, and janitors are all people who lived in Bham and filled out a job application. You can bet that many are Alabama or Auburn fans. So, yes the SEC offices are full of Bama fans and Bama sees a great deal of favoritism when it comes to trash collection and mail distribution.

But, I'm smart enough to understand that you have the reading comprehension skills of a potted plant.

I said that I DID believe this assertion in the past. Note, that means "in the past." I didn't give it much thought, read the assertions on here, and they made sense. Also, past tense. Then, I gave it a little thought (in the present) and I thought that I would ask the question to see if anyone had any facts about the situation instead of just assertion based on speculation.

This thread was an example of me rethinking something and realizing that I had formed an opinion based on the assertions of others without any facts to back it up. But, I had probably spent all of 5 seconds even thinking about it before this, had never even commented on a thread related to it before today, and wanted to blow up the conspiracy theories overall if they were not true.

The theory of Alabama bias in the SEC office because of it being filled with Bama grads/fans has been proven to be demonstrably false in this thread. I never argued for the veracity of it but accepted the facts when presented. I've been up front the whole time.

The ability to change a loosely held, ill-formed, inconsequential opinion when presented with the facts is usually considered to be a good thing.

Maybe so, but they did end our long unbeaten streak when they came to BD the next year.

They're all on the REC payroll. The REC also contributes to their yearly bonuses.

I think you just nominated yourself biggest idiot on the SecRant on your new title.

I feel confident that Rex will be pleased to know he no longer has that title.
