National titles were mythical though for such a large part of CFB history.

While this is true, it’s been 27 years since the Bowl Alliance was formed and 21 years since the BCS started. At what point do we start saying the poll era is ancient history? In the year 2100, poll champions will still make up the majority of CFB history. So will our grandchildren still argue about who dominated in the 50’s?

but it is important to note that Texas has only suffered only 16 losing seasons in its 125-plus year history

I found this interesting so I decided to look up Ohio State. 13 losing seasons in their history and 9 of those losing seasons were prior to 1930.

To the everyone is inferior but the national champions guy. That is about as stupid a take as I've seen. It's great that your team won the championship but in no way does that mean that other teams didn't have a successful season or that they are "inferior" in any way.

I mean we didn’t even have polls until 1936.

All time? Yes

In most people’s on this boards lifetime? No

They had a good run in the Young and McCoy years but other than that they have been very average to below average since the 80s

Texas might be the most historically overrated program in college football.

Notre Dame is easily the most overrated football team of the modern era. Prove me wrong

Yes....they really are.

I tend to lean on the side of, "Yes".

I mean Notre Dame hasn't exactly done much in recent decades, but they are still a blue blood. In fact, since 1960, Texas has 48 more total wins than the Irish.

The thing is, Texas hasn't been bad enough to lose their status. Since 2000, they are 11th in total wins for Power 5 programs. As long as they maintain that level of winning, their historic success will continue to carry them a long and they'll maintain Blue Blood Status.

Very easy to have a winning percentage like that playing weaker talent for decades

Better question may be why isn't LSU considered a blue-blood at this point?

They did destroyed the Big 12!

And the SWC. How many schools can say they have screwed up two conferences. If it had not been for the Aggies they would have screwed up (even worse than it is now) the PAC 12.

It takes real egotism to do that.

I think LSU is more like "new money" blueblood. In the last 20 years: 3 Natties, played for a 4th, worst season is 8 wins, etc. At some point, new money becomes blueblood if we continue trending like we are.

How did Texas screw up the SWC & B12? Will the story include aggy getting another fake national championship?

More to the point, neither is modern. Sit on your hands for a while & just read.

I mean when you consider all-time records, wins, bowl games, etc. we are in the top 10.

winsipedia

Using the above, if you cap it at top 5, then you cut out Texas, Michigan and Nebraska. If we're not "blue-blood" then one is having to make an arbitrary cut off at top 9 programs all time vs top 10 all time.

Agreed, college football didn't exist before Nick Saban was head coach at LSU.
