As the season gets closer the ads are starting to return in Tennessee. The state gets 20% on it and it’s online only with the Tennessee education fund already seeing 35,000,000 from it. Add in the lottery fund and the state sees about a billion a year of free money for tHOPE

What?! Your state allowed sports betting and it didn’t immediately get swallowed into Hell?

Not in Kentucky. But horse betting is totally OK and different, right?

It isn't legal in South Carolina. Had to Google bc I honestly had no idea... Found the answer amusing for obvious reasons. (Obvious to me, anyway)

That’s crazy that lotto and sports book are not used by more states. Lottery is just a stupid tax but sports book has a degree of skill. And if states are cash strapped it’s an easy revenue booster. Tennessee is running a 3 billion dollar surplus right now in part because of lottery and sports book (and keeping the state red).

It became legal in Virginia in January 2021 when I lived there. Didn't get a chance to imbibe, however, because I left a month or so later. I understand that there are legal sports books all over the place here in Costa Rica and they cover pro sports in the US. Not sure about college though. Might find out in the next month or so.

Lol. Don’t even get me started. Conservative bible belters along with the horse industry have a war against sports gambling.

Yep. Won't ever be legal here unless the tracks find a way to monopolize the books. Doesn't matter to me, I've got it all online anyway. I don't even go to the window at Keeneland anymore. Place my bets on my phone in my box seats. Only get up to piss or get more bourbon.

Just a shame every neighboring state has it, so it’s not like Kentuckians aren’t gambling. Only thing it prevents by not having it in Kentucky is the state collecting the revenue. Just giving away money to other states.

Tennessee generally runs a surplus. 2021 saw an 8 Billion surplus, 4 billion in 2020, infact just looking it seems a 2-4 billion surplus has been the norm going back to 2014. Fully funding the 7 billion dollar rainy day fund is nice too. A bit of budget responsibility and being non union has its perks.
