That Kijana Carter/Kerry Collins team in the 90s was badass.

“Destination Job” is a thing of the past.
The only HC to willingly leave a winning P4 program for another school in the last decade is Riley.
Oh and deboer.

It's still the biggest East Coast school if you will. For an East Coast guy, it would be Heaven. They recruit well, the structure, boosters, money, ( they will get NIL figured out), and it is a top 10 perennial. The right coach can win a title there, quickly.

Saquon Barkley and Micah Parsons ring a bell?

They've had plenty of talent.

Any program who will pay you $50 million to no longer coach just 1/2 season after making the playoffs…is a blue blood.

They went undefeated in ‘94 and won the Big 10 in ‘05, ‘08 and ‘16.

Destination job? No, but if PSU calls, your agent will quickly pick up the phone.

They have the money to compete with anyone, but western PA doesn't put out enough talent, they have to recruit nationally.

I always gauge this on the caliber of coach you can hire.

LSU hired away Notre Dame's head coach. Alabama hired away a head coach that was in the national championship game 2 weeks prior.

Penn St. can do neither of those things.

They're gonna go after Cignetti but they aren't gonna get him. That makes Indiana a better job. They'll probably end up with Matt Campbell at Iowa St. Penn St. is clearly a better job than Iowa St.

This is an all time bad take

I’d put SMU, Texas Tech, and TCU over the Penn State job for starters. Penn State is about on the same level as Washington as a program.

I don’t even know what to say tbh. SMU?

Wish we could have gotten Penn St vs Nebraska in a NC game in 1994.

The have a TON of money and resources and now that NIL is what it is, they have the funds to play ball.

And as someone mentioned it’s a tradition rich school.
I rank it 3rd-4th in the Big 10 overall

I’d say it’s right at a Top 10-12 job in the country.

Doubt we can ever forgive all their internal sins during those Paterno years though, but that’s another topic.

Paterno had some really good teams, but who did they play? PSU was an Independent for a long time.

he said it, didn't he? Penn State is wealthy, the alumni base is huge (I think the largest in the country ), puts out a ton of engineers into the workforce.

they can keep up $, and they recruit nationally well and have a good hold on the Mid-Atlantic

They did basically spend $200 million just to get a seat at the table. Do you honestly think the rich assholes that they have over there are not going to spend whatever it takes to be consistent playoff contenders?

Not to derail but it was more than a debacle

quote:

“the event is generally understood as a deeply damaging institutional betrayal, a sexual abuse scandal spanning decades, and a systemic crisis rather than merely a debacle, highlighting layers of moral, legal, and governance failings with profound long-term implications.”

Your point is fair and true. But his reaction is also true.

Putting any of those schools over PSU is folly when you consider job perception. Penn State is a very big name, that does matter in the grand scheme of things.

But to simply laugh off SMU as a contender in this new world, as he seems to do, is also folly
