Still hard to digest the numbers Ms State pit up on his defense, especially seeing a defenses composed of walk-ons in the secondary and linebacker position hold the same offense to half to yardage and points on the road.

I think we can all agree LSU is a solid number 4 in the SEC in terms of defensive talent behind UGA, Bama, and Auburn in the secondary and overall which makes the performance even harder to comprehend.

Considering this the only conclusion is Pelini is the worst DC in the SEC, if there is someone worse, I'd love to hear the argument. I'm not really interested in excuses for Pelini's short comings.

Even though our defense is horrible, that's not Durkins fault. He has no depth or talent to work with.

Pelini has no excuse though

What's more interesting is that Bo Pelini's defenses are typically based in zone (C2) but they stayed in man all night against MSU. That tells me that he doesn't trust his players to know and understand their assignments yet. I did not watch last night to see what they played since Vandy isn't a good litmos test regardless.

Uh no. He's actually a decent D coordinator. He has a lot on his plate with a new defense but was clearly not prepared last week for State. This year is going to be a bitch for him. So many good teams in the SEC.

Youth is a decent excuse. Looked good in the second half last night.

Overall though he’s been a disaster so far.

He had a bad opener. Let’s see at the end of the season.

I doubt it, but he certainly isn't good enough to carry O like Aranda did.

Youth isn’t a decent excuse. Here’s what Arkansas dealt with last night and Costello three for 300 less yards.

It’s obvious you didn’t watch much LSU football under Aranda. Ask me how I know.

He's not as good as Aranda but tbh, Aranda wasn't what I would call great necessarily.

There seem to be a lot of bad defenses in the SEC. Travaris Robinson is garbage. And our HC is supposed to be a defensive genius.

It helped Arky tremendously that State's best skill player got a concussion on the first drive. He's the only skill player starter they have that will play on Sundays.

Against MSU, this is who LSU had available at CB:
Darren Evans, a transfer from Nicholls State who had been on campus for two weeks. Got burned repeatedly

Elias Ricks, 5* true fr, he played pretty well

Jay Ward, 3* sophomore who played a little last year

Cordale Flott, 3* soph who played a good bit last season

Dwight Mcglothern, 4* true fr. I don't think he played vs MSU

Raydarious Jones, 4* soph, I don't think he played vs MSU

No, but he and Coach O were stubborn as hell. I have said what I am about to say on several other threads. Once Kary Vincent opted out back in August (even with Stingley), LSU should have worked on basic zone coverages some 3 man front 8 man zone and 4 man front and 7 man zone with a cover 2 (not Tampa Two with safeties 25 yards down field) and played some soft man and zone over what was called when I was in High school ball 4 years ago the "hook zone" which was from the OL tackle box straight down field 20 yards. LB's handle the short hook 10 yards in and safeties the areas 10 to 20 yards.

O and Bo wanted to go 4 man front and blitz I think to be totally opposite of what Aranda ran, 3 man front with Man and Single High Safety (I wasn't a fan of that all the time either, sometimes 2 deep safeties is the play).

LSU did not need tape from SEC games to do what Pittman and Odom did last night. They put in a 3 man 8 man coverage scheme in 1 week and did a great job, so kudos to Pittman and Odom.

I love O and Bo both but their stubbornness cost LSU the State game. Poor game plan. Last night even with Stingley, LSU let Stingley play Man (he was his elite self) and actually played some 2 deep safeties with some Zone, should have done that last week rather than press man all over the field, 4 man front with a backer blitzing > 50% of the time.

So to summarize, Kudo's to Pittman and Odom and your coaches.

Maybe its just me but the defenses have been rough so far this year across the country. Georgia played very well yesterday defensively though.
