Living in New Orleans, throughout the week before the game on 1/9, I saw some nasty stuff being thrown around by both fan bases (fights, tea-bagging, etc.)I understand that some Alabama fans do not perceive LSU as their rival. Also, based upon that, I met some really nice Alabama fans when they were down here. On the other hand, it was apparent that there really was some deep rooted hatred between both fan bases. There is definitely some sort of rivalry between the two teams, it just isn't a rivalry in the traditional sense.

LSU vs Bama is the biggest rival game between non-rival teams

Pretty much this.

I have always considered LSU a "lesser rival" along with Florida though.

LSU comes in 3rd on Bama's historical radar behind Tennessee and Auburn

This.

But no matter what anyone tells you, Bama's top rival is really Tennessee, not Auburn. Bama fans have always viewed UT as more of a threat to the homestead. AU has been viewed more like a pesky little brother that deserves to be beat up from time to time when he gets out of place. LSU has long been a distant third on Bama's hate scale.

HOWEVER, UT has been weakened for a few years now, and AU is currently going through some issues of its own as well. LSU is still a distant third but has closed the gap considerably in the "Saban Bowl" era. Depending on how long UT is down, the "Third Saturday in October" rivalry could continue to decline some in importance. AU will always remain a rival to some degree, being a fellow Alabama school in the same conference.

LSU/Bama does not have to be a rivalry game, which is the beauty of it. It is currently the most competitive and relevant annual game in college football. There is no need for invented hate. The game on the field is enough.

The LSU/BAMA game has the most riding on it every single year right now so I would say that at the present it is the biggest rivalry in college football. The winner of that game is probably playing in the NC game!

Eh, it's just one of the biggest SEC games lately. If LSU or Bama drops from the top end of the SEC West, then it won't mean much at all. Just gets heated cause it has been deciding the west most years lately.

That doesn't make it a rivalry to me. UT and AU will always be their big rivals.

I'll wait and see how intense it is when Saban is gone and /or both teams are mediocre.

And by the way, I do hate LSU but only because the fans are some of the whiniest humans I have ever encountered. I don't hate Miles or the players.

Correction, one side has been completely consumed with the other since 1/9/12.

Bama fans made a shite ton of threads about LSU on Christmas morning. They're dying for us to be their rivals.

I like to say the same about your fans except that a lot are entitled redneck pricks. Some are quite cool though

Don't hate Saban/players obviously

So, touche

Not necessarily a rivalry.
Nonetheless the most important game in the SEC most of the past 6 -8 years.
which will fast track it to rivalry status
