I look at it this way:
You have permanent rivalries and temporary rivalries. A permanent rivalry is like Alabama/Auburn Alabama/Tenn Florida/Georigia Miss State/Ole Miss.... etc...
You also have temporary rivalries that last while both teams consistently play each at a high level (for several years). For instance, Alabama/Florida Florida/Tenn Alabama/LSU. Once one of these teams is in a slump, it really doesn't feel like a rivalry anymore (they both have to be playing for something). Permanent rivalries mean something even when one or both teams are down.

i agree, if A&M can actually continue their current level of success, which is much easier said than accomplished. i think it also really depends on the landscape of the game when all the super-conference thing gets all set and rolling.
LSU needs someone in the west to truly hate on and be hated back by.
Yup. Sustaining success hasn't exactly been A&M's strong suit historically. If that changes and the Ags are a perennial challenger to the West crown, I think we'll the the LSU/A&M rivalry heat up with a quickness. Time will tell, though.

Why would we hate LSU?
I don't know the why. I just know the hate is real. you need to ask yourself the why.

Can't really ask myself why. I don't have any hate for them. I'd probably pull for LSU if I wasn't a Bama fan.

AU-UA=hate
UT-UA= hate, but like killing a turtle with a hammer. Not so hard.
UA-LSU= the winner goes to Atlanta.
So which has the most meaning?
Ps, Saban got death threats when he pulled the starters in the third quarter against AU up 49-0.
That is real hate.

I'm really grateful for this thread. Apparently I feel and believe very differently from what I thought. Thanks for setting me straight.

Would it kill you to hit the space bar one more time between sentences?
Or how about adding a paragraph?

Just messin', tbh--we don't hate y'all either, for the most part, but I think the foundation of a good rivalry is there.
I know. It will come in time, but true hatred starts from generations of games. We have to have at least an entire student body that grew up their whole lives with A&M making LSU our bitch again, or at least that's all they remember. 15 years from now, when A&M has won 10 of those games, it will be pretty intense. But for now, I don't see myself hating another program more than tu. Other than that, I love the drunk cajuns and had more fun at the 11 am tailgate, and subsequent night with LSU folks than I ever had against an opponent, but frick their arrogance started to make my blood boil. If it wasn't so thin from the bourbon, it probably would have. And I love New Orleans. It is like Vegas, but with less douchey people.

Just like when Flordia was our "rival". LSU is sort of the same way. As long as both teams are good it is a "rivalry". When one or both of the teams are having a down stretch, it will no longer be considered a rivalry.
