Have some class. The man was a hero.

quote:

The University of Florida Athletic Association will celebrate the inaugural 'Tom Petty Day' on Saturday, Oct. 15, in conjunction with the Gators' football game against LSU. The university has also announced it will award the legendary icon an honorary Doctor of Music in May 2023.

In anticipation of 'Tom Petty Day,' the university, in partnership with the Tom Petty Estate, will launch a capsule collection that celebrates the late singer and his connection to the university and his hometown," Florida announced.

Most of his shite songs and terrible voice do it for him, so I don’t feel like we need to go out of our way to do it.

Dude died because of fentanyl like BLM savior George Floyd. Why no outcry, protest, riots and statues for Tom?

Why is UF so desperate to associate itself with Tom Petty? Did he ever attend UF?

He was born in Gainesville, and worked on the Grounds Crew at UF...so it's legit for them to claim him.

Not sure why Florida Gator fans feel like Petty was tied to the school in any way because he cut the grass there a few times…

Also… I happen to know his favorite city in the US was Houston. He said it a few times when I saw him in concert at the Summit.

A friend of mine saw him in St. Louis and he said St. Louis was one of his favorite cities to visit.

By my count Gainesville not even in top 2!!!

It’s really pitiful. I like Petty’s music, but a school he never attended giving him a degree after his death reeks of desperation.

I guess their pool of notable alumni is really shallow… This is something Ole Miss would do.
