Between the piss-poor display from College officials the past couple of days and now watching 3 or 4 penalties in the Falcons-Panthers game that were flat out ignored, I'm starting to wonder...

I think it’s an odd and unfortunate combination of bad officiating and television quality being higher than it’s ever been.

We’ve got more cameras, angles, etc... and better TVs than any time ever before. It’s a lot easier for us to see some things than it is for someone standing on the field with 10 different things they’re responsible for.

Everything you said x 1000. Also, Like the BKBall charge/block foul, some things can be seen easier from the pressbox too.

Have to hit them in the wallet to get their attention.

It's always been this bad. I've been watching for nearly 30 years. It just didn't get much attention. Had very few sports commentary shows, much less the internet and sports talk radio.

Most likely, back in the day announcers respected the officials more as well.

I have been watching for over 40 years and had a friend that was an sec official and I never remember it being as bad as it has been this year, not sure if it is quality of new applicants or poor training or maybe they are not held as accountable for poor performance.

Refs over the past 20 years have been horrible. Probably pump gas during the off season.

JMO...but replay has made them worse....So what if I don't get it right...replay will correct my fk up. It's made them lazy.

I'll throw in the rule changes, too. Football is a much "safer" sport than it was 20 years ago. A lot of what got ignored or was flat out legal back in the day is called (or is supposed to be) nowadays.

It is bad but those guys have it rough especially with teams that run tempo.

It got better when this guy left the field and went to the replay booth. However, no matter how many cameras and angles they have, you still have to worry about his strong Gump bias for replay calls.
