And if so, how will he respond this year as a starter?

Curious, because he seemed to be the one that got away from LSU. At least, that’s what Florida was claiming a year ago.

Meanwhile, Danny Etling is in camp learning from the GOAT.

ETA Doesn’t seem to have the build or accuracy as a Tebow or Fitzgerald.

Thoughts from the Gator fans?

How did he look in the Spring Game?

Amy improvement from last year?

Very little difference in the spring game from last year. The kid just doesn't have it between the ears to be a decent QB. Some say Mullen may be able to fix him, but I have doubts. Kyle Trask looked much more comfortable in the pocket than Franks and seems to fit the spread option better. IMHO Emery Jones is the future for UF but he may get a red shirt this fall.

In all seriousness, does any of the other QB’s besides FF, have a Tebow or Fitz athleticism?

Because that’s what seems to be Mullen’s MO.

Nope.

He is under the tutelage of Tom Brady and Bill Mother fricking Billicek!

You know...the guy who taught Saban everything he knows?

Raw talent maybe only Jones, his ceiling is high at this point and he's only 18 so he's got some growing to do. The good thing is what I saw of him in the spring game is his awareness on the field of what the defense is bringing and adjusting real time. This is the one area Franks is completely devoid of.

So, Jones fits better in this offense you think?

Probably will but he's never had a snap in college. IDK if Dan is willing to gamble on him being this raw. I think Kyle Trask is our QB this season with Jones possibly seeing some playing time here and there.

I doubt that he starts, but who knows except the coaches.

I didn't see much change in him in the spring from last fall.

Unfortunately he appears to be our best option. He has all the physical tools, but like everyone else has probably said, he is not smart enough to be great at the QB position. Good maybe, but great, no. Hope I am wrong, but I saw him do too many stupid things last year which shows he doesn't have the intangibles. The perfect example is him showing the ability to buy more time when the pocket breaks down only to step out of bounds for a 5-7 yard loss when no one is open rather than throwing it away. Everyone in the stadium was waiting for him to throw it away and shocked when he didn't.

Not sure, Mullen seems infatuated with fixing him, so probably. I doubt he ever puts it together, and Emory will probably be starting by game 4 or 5.

Mullen got production out of Chris Relf and won 9 games. Franks can't actually be worse than him.

I live on the Ga/Fl line, so I saw him play a couple of times in high school. Once in a scrimmage against my old high school, and when he was a senior and played that team from Texas on ESPN a couple of years ago.

My impression of him was that as long as he had a 5-star WR, which he did in high school, (Keith Gavin of FSU) all he had to do was throw up a prayer and Gavin would come down with it.

Wakulla High ran an offense kind of like Auburn, and he ran the ball well, but the Texas team shut him right the eff down during the second half of their game. Never really understood UF being so enamored with him.

Usually I'd suggest not putting to much faith in anything you see in a Spring Game. The Florida Spring Game, however, was so laid back that it made most spring games look like the Patriots and Eagles Superbowl.

I do think Franks gets the nod as starter and he should look fairly decent against lowly Charleston Southern in the first game. Florida gets their first three games at home, which will help whoever is the QB settle down a bit, but Kentucky should be a solid test for the Gators in that second game.

Felipe is very athletic, that is not the issue. Big strong arm and body. Too bad he has the mind of the "Blow the whistle" QB from Necessary Roughness.

I don't think he will be the starter because he makes too many mistakes.

I feel like Franks wasn't as good as advertised. Much like Harris.
