Kirby Smart so far looks like he's doing a damn good job, but we will find out this weekend.

Mason is 1-0 vs Smart.

At Vanderbilt.

I'd say it's a tossup between Smart and Mason. But Stoops is doing a much better job now that he's been able to really settle on a staff with Gran staying at OC.

Let's see how Mason does with something to play for.

At this point, I say yes.

Franklin left him with a total mess and he's been rebuilding for the last few years. The main issue was that his offense (outside of Webb) just couldn't get anything going, but that looks different now and he's been winning some big games recently.

He could probably wipe the floor with most coaches with our type of talent.

To be fair, Mason and Kirby both looked in over their head in their first season.

Mason is a better coach at this point. They are definitely doing more with less right now, and quietly starting to recruit better players. Once he has similar talent and depth, a lot more teams are going to be worried about having to play Vandy. I hope their fans start to appreciate what their coach and team are doing and start filling their stadium.

Yeah, the jury is still out on Smart. Kirby hasn't lost to Temple 31-7 yet, so there's hope.

Yeah, it's pretty funny that Kentucky and Vandy are the current shining stars of the East. I don't mean that in a bad way, either. I think it's great.

We didn't know it at the time but that was a good Temple team.

Dude, that game was a shitshow. Mason was in over his head, but he's learned. He hasn't repeated mistakes from season to season and not seen many repeat mistakes from game to game. Mason's tenure is a bit of a lesson in patience.

It's not a knock on where we're at right now. In fact, it should be encouraging. Mason has come a LONG way as a HC since then. He, and the team, has improved every year in an appreciable way. I'm not sure where the ceiling is for Mason as a coach, but it will be exciting to see.

There will never be a "once." This is why Franklin left and why Mason will eventually leave. Programs like Stanford, Vandy, Duke will never have the talent that is at UGA or Bama or LSU b/c of the academic standards at the former.

this board is so overreactionary because vandy barely beat a mid-level big 12 team. vandy and ksu will both end the season with 6 or 7 losses.

smart, muschamp, stoops and mcelwain are better than mason. argument can be made for butch (which says more about butch than mason). only mizzou's coach is clearly worse.
