Is changing coach every 5 years or so a way to build program?

Re: A&M

A$M is getting ready to dump their 6 year Coach. Fans want to be a Bama. Who doesn’t . Sumlin has by some school standards a decent record. Why would any top coach come to College Station with such a fickle fan base? I believe Sumlin is a liability. He is too nice a person. To win a Natty, you need an a hole like Saban. Who should A&M hire? I say Will Muschamp. Why, he’s an a-hole. Was tu’s heir apparent at one time. Has deep recruiting ties in Texas. Doing awesome job with SCe. Muschamp would recruit BIG lineman and linebackers and that’s what you need to beat Bama. Give him a ten year contract and 8 million a year. Mark my words, A&M won’t do this but if they did, count on 2-3Nattys within 10 years. Flame away!

Bill Curry (1987-1989)
Stallings (1990-1996)
DuBose (1997-2000)
Franchione (2001-2002)
Price (lol)
Shula (2003-2006)

Undeveloped QBs and transfers have wiped out UT, UF, TAMU, Not sure what Arkies problem is.

Crappy HS offenses no longer prepare kids for College ball in some cases....

Yes we did, but we got lucky with Saban. The Bama fan base demands excellence. Aggies have been mediocre program for decades. So, would Muschamp be a good hire.

if they aren't getting it done after 5 years then why stay with em?

i'm sure a&m can win 8 games a year (in a 13 game season with 3 or o cupcakes) with pretty much any decent coach that can halfway recruit.

at this point, sumlin is what he is. 8 wins a season avg isn't all that in this day and age, not a place with resources like a&m.

Perkins quit (left to go to the NFL)
Curry half quit/half got fired
Stallings retired
DuBose - First legit fired
Fran - left
Shula - Second legit fired

Realistically since Bear left we've only had 2 disaster hires we had to fire and they both got 4 seasons.

What you say is true but kids today need discipline. Too many Head Coaches want to be their buddies. Saban is a great recruiter and disciplinarian. Sumlin has recruited ok but I think has been to soft on his players and has not developed them to their fullest potential like Saban does with Bama players.

Saban was the right coach at the right school. You give him what he wants and he gives you what you want.

The system more than pays for it self, facilities, salaries, huge staffs, pays off in revenue...

This is why many schools struggle with Saban disciples, he is a rising tide that makes every part of the program better .

Many schools want a gimmick guy with a hybrid o like Meyer that briefly shifts the paradigm but are not as consistent as Sabans rising tide approach.

In Texas, every HS team just about runs the spread. Lineman development is way behind most Southeast High Schools. I know the spread is popular nationwide, but I’m guessing lineman get better developed in Florida, Georgia etc than in Texas. Any thought on HS development?

Told to get lost

Stallings retired

Essentially forced out by Sorensen and Bockrath

Yes

quote:

Fran - left

Yes. Was lied to about severity of sanctions.

quote:

Shula - Second legit fired

Yes.

All of that is rather unimportant, though... OP says this:
