Actually Mississippi Valley State had a coach named Lafayette Stribling back in the day. One year (1986) they were the 16 seed playing Duke the #1 seed. They led most of the game before losing right at the end. He was a great coach and also the best dressed coach in America. I think he had like 400+ suits in his wardrobe.
Great man with a great wit as well.
Oh wait you were mentioning Ben Howland?
Ummm, he is the coach of Mississippi State University. So you can tell your Valley friends that he is not on the hot seat. Thank You.
He might be looking for a coach who can teach players how to shoot and make a free throw, though.

Howland lost 4 starters who all averaged double digits off last years team. This years team is mostly Fr and Soph and is a rebuild. Next year he will be on the hot seat not this year.

They are really, really young. I do wonder if the game is passing him by a little though. When you watch teams like Bama, Ark, and others running up and down the floor and shooting tons of threes and then he’s still running that slower, half-court style. Wonder if he can get recruits to buy into that going forward

Howland is safe. I really don't think that State cares about Men's basketball

A MSU message board poster claimed Marshall is a million times more toxic than Hugh Freeze and likely will never be hired to coach again.

He is right.
Freeze's issues involve embarrassing personal moral failures and 'overzealous' recruiting tactics. There's a long list of coaches that have overcome both of those.
Marshall's accusations involve multiple physical attacks on players, assistant coaches, and in one case a regular old student that parked in his reserved space. He was also accused of using of race based insults to taunt his players. LINK. He's also got a reputation for being a narcissistic dick.
It will be a very long time before he gets another job of any significance - if he can get one at all.

Apparently his wife caused quite the scene in Fayetteville with her own attitude when he toured for our job back when we hired Muss.

“ Lafayette Stribling was legendary”
When I was in high school school at Meridian High, we played South Leake (where Coach Stribling was before he went to Valley). They were a small HS but they whipped our butts for 3+ quarters before we finally came back and won the game. In today’s equivalence, we were 6A and they were 2A. I knew then he was a great coach and was not surprised a bit when he went in to have great success at Valley. He was/is a class act.
