It seems like this is discussed every season when Auburn comes in with a half decent team, but nevertheless Auburn somehow finds ways to keep pulling Iron Bowl upsets on a fairly regular basis.

In Iron Bowl games involving both teams being ranked, Auburn has won 12 of the last 15 meetings. In 10 of those 15 meetings, Alabama had the higher ranked team at the time of the game.

Since 1983 when both teams are ranked:

In Jordan-Hare: Auburn 7-0
At Legion Field: Auburn 4-1
In Bryant-Denny: Alabama 2-1

When AU is higher ranked: Auburn 5-0
When AL is higher ranked: Auburn 7-3

When AL is ranked #1: Auburn 2-1
When AL is in Top 2: Auburn 3-2
When AL is in Top 5: Auburn 4-3
When AL is in Top 10: Auburn 7-3

---

On paper, Alabama should win this game somewhat handily, and I suspect they will. But historically speaking, this rivalry has a history of decent Auburn teams punching above their weight.

Going into the game, this one feels similar to 2014 and 2016 when Auburn was ranked #15/#16 and was playing against #1/#2 Bama, respectively. Bama won both of those by double-digits.

My prediction: Auburn keeps it close for a half, but Bama pulls away to win it 41-24

This game will be a bloodbath. Auburn's record is not indicative of the way they've played for much of the year, unfortunately.

What poll are you using? Auburn was ranked the year after the Camback

I personally don’t see this one being close. Bama will be able to do whatever they want on offense. I suspect we will see Tutt (assuming he plays) getting burned on the reg. Also Najee will likely run for 150+.

We don’t have the offense to win a shootout, especially if Tank is out or limited.

This is Auburn's worst interior defensive line that I can ever remember and one of our worst offensive lines. Barring 4 or 5 miracle plays (I mean, its the IB, you never know) we won't be in this one in the 2nd half.

Interesting info. I don't think AU has a snowball's chance in hell this year, but who knows. Maybe the smaller crowd is a plus for the road team this year?

Not trying to be an arse, but is there a number off here? Those numbers add up to 13-2, where the numbers below add up to 12-3, like what you had said before the breakdown.

Yeah, this one could be ugly. It is the IB so you just never know...........but bama's O is a lot more consistent than ours has been.

He’s got the record in JHS incorrect. Alabama and Auburn were ranked in the 2011 game. In which Alabama won.

Hope you're right, but you can never tell when Gus pulls one outta his wazoo. I learned my lesson before the '02 game. I ran my mouth before that game and we laid an absolute egg. I called in sick the entire next week

If we could compete on the DL it might be a different story, and I expect is to play hard, but were going to get worked on Saturday. Najee will have 150 and Robinson another 100. It'll be close in the first half, something like 21-14 Bama, but they will pull away big time in the 2nd half. 48-14.

Just a thought exercise: Auburn is currently ranked #22 in the AP poll.

In a normal year, would Auburn be ranked at this point in the season?

I only say this to wonder if historically, those Auburn teams weren’t considerably better than what we’ve seen thus far over the past few weeks.

I'm just going off the info at Sports-reference.com which I believe uses the AP Poll for its historical rankings.

Looks like the CBS graphic was using the BCS standings at the time.

This isn't anywhere near a good Auburn team.

It's not at JHS either.

That still doesn’t explain why the records don’t add up to equal one another in the breakdowns.

The Bryant-Denny number is 2-1 for ALABAMA, which is where you get the two Auburn losses to add to the one from 1994 at Legion Field.... making it 12-3 overall.

Depends on what rankings you look at. In the AP, Auburn was not ranked. I always go by AP rankings because they are historically consistent since 1936.

If you want to go by the BCS rankings, then sure, count your win in Jordan-Hare in 2011. But the BCS rankings don't exist nowadays which sort of proves my point that for consistency sake, its best to just use the AP rankings.
