1. Alabama is giving up pretty big big plays.
The Crimson Tide’s offense is terrifying at the moment, ranking first in efficiency, ninth in explosiveness, and third in overall Off. S&P+. That’s unfair.

But a younger-than-normal defense, with a totally rebuilt secondary, has suffered at least a few glitches. They are only 28th in rushing marginal efficiency, for instance (good, but mortal) and they are 63rd in marginal explosiveness — 83rd against the pass and 83rd on standard downs. Granted, you have to create a lot of big plays to keep up with this offense, but it’s technically possible.

3. Georgia’s defense is awfully bend-don’t-breaky.
The Dawgs have allowed just 24 points in three games, so we probably shouldn’t overstate any issues.

Still, while they might prevent big plays as well as anyone in the country — which should make for an interesting matchup when they take on Drew Lock and the Missouri offense this weekend — teams have been able to move the ball incrementally so far. The Dawgs are 88th in success rate allowed, and opponents’ average third-down distance has been just 5.9 yards, the second-lowest (and, for defenses, second-worst) in FBS.

They swarm to the ball well, but they don’t disrupt: they’re only 103rd in havoc rate. A patient offense could do some damage.

Let me start by saying that I have not watched UGA play a single snap this year so my opinion is solely based on the OP.

If what they say about the dogs D is true, then LSU has at least a 50% chance of winning that game.

We have a damn good D that will be able to slow down the running game and make Fromm beat us. I’m not saying Fromm can’t beat us, I’m just saying that we have a D that can make him have to.

Plus our O has shown it can be patient and opportunistic. Hopefully we gel on that side of the ball in the next 3 games and show up ready for a fight.

I’m really excited about this matchup.

It’s how many plays you make behind the LOS I think.

The Bama D will gel by the last half of the season because that's what Saban does.

That's kinda interesting.

Still hard to say anything based on 3 games but I wonder how this happens. Presumably UGA isn't getting into the backfield for TFL and causing any third and long plays.

Why is it so hard to complete passes against UGA?

This is an honest question: what is your opinion of your team thus far? Do you disagree with the assessment in the OP?

UGA is #7 nationally and #1 in the SEC in total D.
UGA is #2 nationally and #1 in the SEC in scoring D.

Lots of other SEC teams have played equally shite schedules. Just saying I don’t see chink in our defense..it is hard to do better than it has so far. We’ve literally cleared the benches for all 3 games.

I wonder why?
All of those potential all conference and potential all Americans on offense before we played them. And for some reason... one of their 2 games has their rankings pushed pretty low.

Can you figure out why those preseason all American and all conference potentials havent lived up to their potential after 2 games?

Me either. All we can judge is what they’ve done and it’s been almost perfect and that’s with playing a ridiculous amount of 3rd/4th string guys.

our offense had a few decent drives against Georgia. Kirby had to call a timeout a one point to let the defense rest

I think you meant "kink" in the body armor, "chink" in a chain or a wall, perhaps?

And don't let any PC SJW try to convince you that the use of "chink" is in any way a racial slur or pejorative directed at the Chinese. It's not and besides there are far better pejoratives to sling in a slanted fashion if one is so inclinded.

Chink, as in a kink in a chain or a narrow crack or opening in a wall, has been around for centuries. "A chink in one's defenses" is still commonly used in military circles today.

The chink in the defense is the linebacking corps.

We are still developing there. It doesn't mean that they will not make plays. But they do not have "erasers" like Roquan. No where near that consistency.

It does slow down momentum. But those timeouts are used for coaching. So far the past 2 seasons, we look a lot better coming out of those defensive timeouts.
