This has been going on for a while, I just wish more kids were made aware of it and I think way more would come back, knowing that if they got hurt would still get paid. I know a gentleman that actually sells these policies mostly to college basketball players, and some football players.

Not if they don't pay out.

Granted, that policy only covers career-ending injuries, not nearly the amount he’d lose. And because of that, plenty of others think he should re-think his stance, since he’d probably be the top pick in this draft if eligible.

From ProFootballTalk, guys like Marcus Latt will never recoup the money they lost due to non-career ending injury

I'm surprised that no one has yet asked the question ... "but who decides if a player is big time NFL material?"

I think it would be just like any other insurance assessment. Bring in experts and make a judgement based on projections?

I don't see how these damn things can be afforded. The risk is just ridiculously high. And for stars who spend more time on the field/court than average players? It has to outweigh the odds of a car wreck by a factor of 10 at least.

Good point. I'm not sure how that works but according to the talk I heard about it on the radio evidently the NCAA agrees to pick up a good portion of the premium payments based upon a MEANS test and the results of the draft review board, whatever that means.

I dot think I've ever heard anyone speak against these types of policies. What would the argument against them be? Not worth the purchase price?

It's the prudent thing to do and college players have been insuring themselves for years. I know McFadden had a big policy.

Here's the story from ESPN plus I heard this morning that JFF is taking out a similar policy today or Monday.

Someone on ESPN, discussing Noel's (I think it was Bilas), said that no insurance policy like these taken out has ever paid out a thin red dime. Not one. McGahee took out $2.5M and didn't get a penny.

It seem like peeing up a rope, if true.

Ed Chester (UF DL 95-98) cashed $1M after blowing out his knee on the first play of the LSU game in '98.
