Most were not alive when Coach Bryant won about one hundred games against LSU. The despair, anger, angst, and hopeless hate was alive and well in the 60s and 70s. And Ive seen references to Huey Long leading the LSU band down the Avenue before Alabama games in the 1930s and the vitrole from the packed sidewalks was pretty strong.

But what has REALLY stuck in the LUSer fans craw through the decades is that Alabama doesn't much care or think about LSU except during game week. My friends in New Orleans who are LUSers are on and on about Alabama this or that year-round. Trouble is, we don't give a rats. Redneck Auburn and hill-billy Vols, even Ga. Tech back in the day, are what's important.

When I was growing up and later in school, LSU was just a funny little school out on the edge of the conference full of people with funny names who talked like Yankees. Good football, but really not even Southern. I can testify it is still pretty much an accurate description, now that I've been a N.O. resident for 40 years.

LSU is 2-2 in the past four seasons against Bama. That’s almost a half decade of parity.

I respect Bama as elite but the reign of terror is over.

Gumps talk like they have never lost to LSU but are 11-13 this century and some of those wins were near- miraculous. They are 2-2 since their program returned to earth and were probably the 4th best team in the SEC this year when they were the consensus front runners and had a very favorable schedule. They won’t admit it, but they see the writing on the wall.

They have never recovered from 2011. Until that point, they had been somewhat holding their own, albeit with nothing to show for it.

Saban destroyed them in 2011 and it's been complete domination ever since.
