14 years later, they lead the SEC with four. Though that will change in 2025 when the two newcomers join the conference.

We really instilled a greatness in Saban when he was with us and it continues to shine brightly like a beacon letting the world know just how far you can go by spending time at LSU.

I would argue that the limitations of a program like LSU held Saban back. Fans, boosters, and administration alike were not used to winning championships and so had no way of managing expectations. Alabama had already won seven national titles in the Poll Era by the time Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. Expectations were therefore national championship or bust.

I always thought that was such an odd fact that Bama had never had a Heisman winner until recently.

Would Bryce Young still win the Heisman if it was awarded after the entire season?

Well Coach Bryant had Heisman type winners on the team but they did not get enough time on the field as Alabama played just about everybody in a game.

That's a good question for quite a few Heisman Trophy winners.

This is correct. LSU didn't let him give away Dodge Chargers.

Sorta makes you wonder if all the voters since 2008 have had their own special NIL deal going on.
Seriously, congrats Bama.
Seriously, congrats Bama.

If Saban had never left LSU he would have won several national titles and Bama probably wouldn’t have any during his reign.
Once you get to the top dozen or so teams that are willing to spend, it’s all about the HC.
Manage expectations. Pfft. Nick Saban manages the frickin’ expectations and whatever the hell else he wants to at Bama.

More than likely. A good QB can manage without a great O line or great receivers but not without both.

Doubtful. Saban couldn't even string together back-to-back 10-win seasons at LSU whereas, at Alabama, he hasn't had a season with fewer than 11 wins since 2010.

Sure. Keep thinking that. LSU has won two more national titles with buffoons as head coaches due to the foundation Saban built. It would be at least three titles if Saban himself hadn’t returned to college.
If Saban had started at LSU with the rock star status and experience he had when he went to Bama (a natty on the resume and two years as HC of a prestigious NFL team), oh my!

Who would have won it over him? He was the only one of the finalists left standing. Hell, he threw for 369 yards against UGA - most of which came without his two best WR.

He wasn't standing when Georgia's defense finished with him.

35 of 57 for 369 yards without his 2 best receivers and was sacked fewer times than Stetson Bennett.
