Imagine if the Supreme Court made this ruling over a decade ago

NEW: In a victory for college athletes, SCOTUS unanimously invalidates a portion of the NCAA's "amateurism" rules. The court says the NCAA can no longer bar colleges from providing athletes with education-related benefits such as free laptops or paid post-graduate internships.

Cam Newton never gets booted from Florida.
Auburn plays the 2010 season with Neil Caudle or Barrett Trotter...
What a ripple effect.

Imagine amateur athletes being amateurs

CFB fans would have been robbed of this.

Barrett Trotter might've been solid with a decent OL. Forgot all about Neil Caudle.

How could the NCAA have previously prevented schools giving athletes post-graduate internships? If they've already graduated and are no longer NCAA athletes, how would the NCAA have been able to have any authority in the first place?
I also figured athletes already got laptops now or at least use of them as part of their scholarship, especially considering how much of their curriculum is online these days. It's been almost 15 years since I was in college, but even then I had courses where we didn't even have a physical textbook. We got our material virtually

That is interesting. Massive impact on AU and UF, and the SEC as a whole. Culcharelly Cam really fit in with how UF was rolling back then.

I graduated in '14 and didn't have a laptop throughout college (spent a lot of time on the library computers though). That was probably one of the last years that it was possible. You gotta have one now.

That was a 4 loss team without Cam. In the ultimate team sport Cam personally dominated. That was the single greatest individual season of college football I think any of us will ever see.

Arkansas plays Cam Newton led Florida in the 2010 SECCG. Mind blown.

I know...after we lost the entire OL for the most part along with receivers and TE. Not to mention Chizik was also fiddling with the offense and slowing it down in 2011.

Totally agree. I remember Cam running through Georgia, LSU like they were little kids. When Bama shut down his running (temporarily), he threw unreal darts. He was impossible to defend. For that one season, that was the greatest performance by any player I've ever seen. The only other players' seasons that were somewhat close in Cam's league were Tebow in 08 and Herschel in 80 but still not really close imo.

Cam Newton never gets booted from Florida.
Converted to TE -> All-American -> NFL -> CTE -> Murder -> Prison -> “Suicide”
AU put him back on the straight and narrow and saved his life

Honestly, amateurism is overrated.

Can Newton and Johnny Manziel we’re ahead of their time, very revolutionary athletes

Todd Gurley plays a full 2014 season. Ended up losing to Florida and the SEC East without him.
AJ Green plays a full 2010 season. Lost to South Carolina, Arkansas, and MSU without him.

I started at UGA in 2015 and am currently between my second and third years at law school right now, and I have never had class materials distributed virtually, always physical books.
That said, it would be impossible to do assignments without an computer that at least has a word processor. Between my sophomore and junior year, my laptop died and I didn't have the money then to replace it, so I went back to school that year with my parents' old PC running Windows 98, and it was barely enough for the half semester before I got a new laptop.
