I'm starting to think A&M may have made a huge mistake...

It may pay off in the short term, but it will be a mistake in the long term.
-He has no ties to A&M.
-He has already achieved the top goal at the highest level of his profession.
-He has no reason to be hungry, he is guaranteed to make millions in the next decade as long as he wakes up every morning and drives to work.
As someone who hires people for a living, I know what a good hire looks like.
-First and foremost, you are looking for ability and experience. If both of those boxes are not checked, then you can throw the resume in the trash.
-Next, you are looking to see if the potential hire would work well with his future coworkers. It needs to feel like the right fit.
-Third, what are his/her motivating factors and how do they apply to this job. Do they have personal goals that are yet to be acheived and can they be achieved here? are they looking for a promotion here and eventual significant pay raise?
Going down the checklist, he has the experience and ability, and sure, maybe he will work well with the folks at A&M, but his motivating factors are zero. This would warrant a big red flag on his resume. I would then ask myself, is his asking salary worth the risk of hiring an unmotivated man, and are their options with just as much or almost as much talent and experience that would be a much safer bet financially? At this point I throw his resume in the garbage.
Mark my words, while it won't be immediate, at some point in the next decade A&M's program will hit a low it hasn't seen in a long time, and will be stuck paying a man who doesn't have to work for his money. This was not a safe hire, in reality it was more of a risk.

They are taking a chance
They could hire jesus himself and they would not win at A&M
Having money doesnt mean you will win anything. Ask real big money schools about it. A&M is faux big money.
I am talking the Northwesterns, Stanfords, etc of the world

It’s been 48 hours.
I think this offseason may kill me.

By that logic all coaches that have a title and long term deal have no motivation. I’ll inform Nicky, Dabo, & Urban.

A&M didn’t make a mistake hiring Jimbo. They made a mistake agreeing to a home and away vs Clemson while having to navigate the SEC West. Good luck the next two years with that schedule Jimbo.

As an LSU fan, I’d naturally like to agree with your point, but there’s a missing factor from your considerations for you to consider, and that’s pride and ego, and Jimbo is fueled by it as much as anyone in the coaching profession is. Besides, If I caught my wife getting smashed by a Florida gator of all people, and I’m in a conference where all I hear is Nick this and Nick that, I’m wanting some arse. My mission is to get my manhood back, my mojo if you will. When he’s in the heat of the SEC competition I think you’ll be surprised just how motivated Slim Jim is to win.

Basically Jimbo is Ricky Bobby coming back to racing coming to destroy Nick Saban in the Pierre car

I think it is a great hire. He is a great recruiter and has a very good offensive mind. He has a great record developing QBs and that is the one thing missing in the SEC.
