While I disagree with Alabama counting it, pre-WWII awarded many teams NC. However it might be better if Alabama counted 1966....only undefeated and untied team (and did I mention two time NC in 64-65)

The majority of pre AP poll titles are claimed decades later for many teams. Notre Dame started all the crap.

41 isn't a legit claim.

66 wouldn't be a legit claim either. Titles are awarded by the polls, just because a team went undefeated it doesn't mean they won a national championship. I of course think it was bullshite that Alabama was skipped, but can't change the history.

How did Notre Dame start everything?
You do realize there are pics of Bama's 1983 media guide stating only 6 titles, right? Then y'all magically "won" 5 more a year later.

Well, the entire history is a long story that I don't have time to write out today.

A quick version is Knute Rockne wanted to claim championships way back in the 20s, and had math polls go back in time over a couple of seasons he wanted, as a means to claim national championships later on.

There is this whole deal over the 60's through the 80's about Alabama vs Notre Dame, national championships etc.

1983 = the year Bear died, he wouldn't allow them to be claimed is what I've always heard. After his death, they went and did thing the way Notre Dame did, as a way to even up the national championship claims.

Okay but ND only claims one pre-AP and they went undefeated and won the Rose Bowl (1924). Not even close to 1941.

1929 and 1930 weren't claimed retroactively, those were based on Frank Dickinson's ranking system that was published by various newspapers all over the country.

Is this the thread that will allow UGA to come to terms with not winning an SEC Championship in the same season that they have won a NC in over 40 years

No, they claim 3. The first AP polls was in 1936.

1924 is one of the years he had someone go back in time to do a math poll for. He didn't get his other years like he wanted.

In 1983, Notre Dame claimed 10 national titles. Alabama claimed 11 after Bear died etc. Before Bear died, they only claimed his.

That's just the history of it. I don't claim 1941.

Lmao. If half of your team was hurt, half our team was hurt.

You were missing one player in the secondary and one on the OL. That's as much as any team can ask for at the end of the year.

Good point, we’re gonna have to do it next year via beating A&M in the SECCG.

Only a few years later when Frank Dickinson's system included the 1924 and 1925 seasons. And again, not when they lost 2 games and finished 3rd in a conference.

List the injured and what they had done for your team prior to the injury.
