then you'll remember how great of a rivalry the Florida-Florida State game used to be.

*Saturday's game between Florida and Florida State will mark the 3rd consecutive meeting in which at least one of these teams is NOT ranked in the AP Top 25 at the time of the game.

*This will mark the 10th meeting in the last 14 seasons that one of the teams was not ranked at the time.

*From 1990-2003, the Gators and the Seminoles met 16 consecutive times in which BOTH teams were ranked in the AP Top 25..... From 1990-2000, they met 13 consecutive times in which BOTH were ranked in the AP Top 10..... Six times during this stretch BOTH were ranked in the AP Top 5.

That rivalry used to be one heck of a season finale.... now it barely makes news that they are playing.

Growing up in FL wild how the Big 3 here all were successful during the same time period, and all won a natty in that same period.

Since they were always on tv, my family’s thanksgiving seem to always include watching this game. Hard to believe it has been an irrelevant game for most of the past decade.

Or the decade in which LSU had six losing seasons.

Kind of like UG / G Tech.

Tech hasn't been much of a rivalry for us since the '60s or '70s.... we're long past that.

It certainly used to be...unlike every other OOC rival of every other SEC team.

Georgia and Georgia Tech have only met 9 times in which both teams were ranked. Heck, Tech alone has only been ranked 11 times in our last 58 meetings with them.

This was a big deal to the older generation back in the '50 and '60s, but to younger fans and alumni, Tech just isn't that big of a rivalry.

About the earliest thing I can remember is FSU having Chris Rix.

Edit: Just looked up when that was which is right since I didn't start really watching CFB until 2000 when I was 12.

So I guess I don't remember the 90s.

How many titles in baseball did LSU bring home in the 90s...?

And UGA?

Part of me wants the game to really mean something again for both teams. The other part of me hopes they hire someone even worse than Taggart.

U F is doing their part for now. Maybe FSU is at least making a move upward in ditching Taggert. Too much talent in the state for this game to not be relevant again. All about both schools having the right head coaches in place at the same time and it can happen again.

FSU-UF and FSU-Miami were "can't miss games" back in the day.

FSU-UF is likely the best annual, non-conference rivalry in college football rivalry. Look forward to when that gets back on track.

Georgia Tech in the 90's under O'Leary used to give everyone fits.

The rivalry took a dip during the Reggie Ball days, but even then, those games were close.

UGA fans are kidding themselves if they think it's not a rivalry - it's historically been a pretty good one. The Jackets were usually good for a W every 3 years under CPJ.

I think the coach they've got now (Collins) is one hell of a football guy. He's from Georgia, is a known terror on the recruiting trail, and I think he'll make waves sooner rather than later.

GT will never continuously beat out UGA for elite talent, but they've got a known track record of pulling in some elite guys in-state (Calvin Johnson, for example), who don't necessarily want to play in Athens, rather, Atlanta.

Collins is a guy who was Saban's "go-to" recruiter when the staff first got to Alabama. I wouldn't sleep on him. They've been pretty bad this year (as expected, transitioning from the 1950's on offense), but have had some nice flashes along the way.

With as absolutely dog shite as the ACC is lately, it wouldn't take much to get Tech going. Good coach, great location and recruiting base, fantastic school, big conference... I'm kinda high on where they'll be in a few years. The ACC division they play in is ripe for the taking.
