If you ever doubt the SEC is the Lord Emperor of College Football

Look not further than the number of different teams in each conference that's won a national championship during the modern (BCS/playoff era). The numbers speak for themselves.
SEC
Tennessee, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia
ACC
Florida State, Miami, Clemson
Big XII
Oklahoma, Texas
Pac 10
USC
Big 10
Ohio State
The schools listed above represent all college football national championships going back to the 1998 season almost a quarter century ago. In the past 23 years only 13 different teams in the FBS have won the national Championship. Six of those 13, almost half, are from the SEC. The closest conference to the SEC is the ACC and they have half as many teams that have won a national championship as the SEC.
That's what you call complete domination.
And if you want to look by region, the South completely owns college football. In the modern era only three times, or 2 if you want to consider Oklahoma as Southern, has the national champion not come from the South.

This is really sort of staggering when you think about it, especially for those of us who grew up watching the media coverage of Notre Dame, Penn State, et al.

Did Tennessee win in the BCS era? That was so long ago it’s hard to remember.

Three different SEC teams winning the last three nattys will always be a strong statement. Almost as strong as that 4 in a row by 4 different in 07-10.

Miami was in the Big East when they won the 01 title

A lot of caveats behind that of course, but I think this generally refers to southern states.
Going back to the mid-90s run by Nebraska (pre-BCS), there have only been three west/midwest teams to win a national championship in the past 24 seasons (12.5%).
2021 Georgia (southeast)
2020 Alabama (southeast)
2019 LSU (southeast)
2018 Clemson (southeast)
2017 Alabama (southeast)
2016 Clemson (southeast)
2015 Alabama (southeast)
2014 Ohio State (midwest)
---CFP---
2013 Florida State (southeast)
2012 Alabama (southeast)
2011 Alabama (southeast)
2010 Auburn (southeast)
2009 Alabama (southeast)
2008 Florida (southeast)
2007 LSU (southeast)
2006 Florida (southeast)
2005 Texas (south central)
2004 Southern California (west)
2003 LSU (southeast)
2002 Ohio State (midwest)
2001 Miami (southeast)
2000 Oklahoma (south central)
1999 Florida State (southeast)
1998 Tennessee (southeast)
---BCS---
1997 Michigan, Nebraska (midwest)

To think there was a time when folks were fed the BS that Southern football was an inferior product - and that it took a ton for a Southern team to get an invite to the Rose Bowl. So many great southern teams that barely got any recognition due to that absurd bias.

When did the SECCG game start? I remember talk about the SEC starting their own NCG ( SECCG) becuz the SEC was not getting the opportunity to play in the NCG consistently during a number of years. This stopped when we started the SECG. So some of those previous NCG other teams outside the SEC would not hv won
