If Jerry Jones wants Gus, can Auburn really outbid him?

Would they be able to pony up enough to beat out Jones? Gus could view this as a tryout for potentially getting the Cowboys gig in the future.

Does he tell Jerry no to Arky and burn that bridge?

Its not that we can't, we won't.....Gus ain't worth the kind of money Arkansas would have to pay him to take that step down.

What is the rule preventing JJ from hiring Malzahn on an “endorsement” deal to compliment the coaching salary? I’m sure it’s out there or Oregon would have Saban, Meyer, etc.

Auburn would have to be stupid to get in a bidding war over a coach that ran the ball 17 straight first downs vs L7U. I hope Arky gets old Gus, then we can see if Gus made AU or AU made Gus. I know what my opinion is.

You've never heard of Yeller Feller or Robert Lowder OP? That dude owns banks. No, neither are billionaires but Auburn ain't exactly poverty stricken. If Malzahn leaves Auburn it won't be cause Arkansas outbid them.

Gus is not worth a bidding war on. Just like Merlin. There are only a few people that could demand a bidding war.

Nobody at Auburn owns the Cowboys.

If Jones promises Gus that team after success at Arky, can Yella match that?

Coaches have endorsements. They have forever. Bear has Coca-Cola and Golden Flake. There isn't any rule against endorsements. There's someone sometimes endorsements required in their contract.

But there's also a limit on what a school can pay a coach. Very little, if any, of their actual salaries are paid by the University. It's usually paid from the athletic foundation, which is donations and possibly revenue. The only incentive to hide it through an endorsement, would be try to hide the headlines on his salary. Though unless it's a private company, the number would still be revealed.

Of course we couldn't outbid Jones.

I don't think money is the issue for Malzahn. He's from Arkansas and is getting older. As much as I love Auburn, I can easily see how someone not from there or with a connection there would get bored really quickly. When the university is closed, it is a small, quiet, boring Alabama town. Granted, the Malzahns have the money to fly home to Arkansas every weekend if they want.

If Gus wants to go to Arkansas, he's going to go. If he wants to keep building a football program that can win championships and cement his legacy as a top coach, he'll stay.

Gus to the Cowboys? This is recycled straight from Nov. 2013. Jimmy Sexton just has a box of greatest hits he goes to every year.

This would be great, then China could have their very own Wong Wei Bo moment.

I'm not necessarily trying to run Gus off, but if someone wants to pay him more, wish him luck and move on. He isn't bad, but isn't worth fighting/over paying for.

You don't quite understand. Is Jones willing to pay Malzahn $200M per year? No. Doesn't matter how much more money Jones has.
Auburn is plenty rich enough to offer Malzahn more money, but he doesn't deserve it.

Whatever money Jones is willing to pay, Auburn could match it... but they better not. He ain't worth it.
