in 2002, who would have faced Miami?

I bring this up because both the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes went 8-0 in Big Ten play without playing each other. Iowa had lost earlier in season to at the time a decent Iowa State that was ranked as high as #9 and a 6-1 record before tanking.

If tOSU/Iowa played and Iowa won....

Who plays Miami?

1 loss Georgia?
1 loss Ohio State?
1 loss Iowa?
2 loss USC?

I bring up USC because many across the country felt they were playing the best football late in the season.

Go check the old BCS rankings
Whoever was higher at that time most likely
It's hard to predict how the AP and Coaches would have voted.
Would that have been enough to leap Iowa over the other two?
Iowa St would have still been a bad loss.

The final 2002 BCS Standings have been released and defending champion Miami will meet Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

TEAM BCS USA Today
/ESPN AP POLL AVG.
Miami (Fla.) 1 1 1 1
Ohio State 2 2 2 2
Georgia 3 4 4 4
USC 4 5 5 5
Iowa 5 3 3 3

Based on the points I dont see it. Iowa SOS was 49 vs UGA's 5. They were 2.5 pts behind UGA, They could have received the quality win .5 point bump, poll rankings might have evened out, but I think they still would be slightly behind with the SOS
