No. There is no opportunity being lost. Adding FSU is not on the table and even if it were there is no upside to the addition. From the point of view of the SEC there is no benefit from adding the second-best school in the state unless we have no presence there already.
Monetarily, FSU wouldn't bring in as much as any school that is in a new state, assuming the SEC Network takes off like the Big 10 network has and has similar deals.
From the recruiting standpoint, it would be like LSU taking a 2-star running back from in-state when we have five on the roster and three in the class just because Texas wanted him and we didn't want them to have him.

We should definitely trade Mizzou for FSU.

I wish everything wasn't based on the almighty dollar (although I am by no means naive in that regard). But at what point do we quit being the Southeastern Conference? Culturally and geographically, FSU makes more sense than any other potential addition.
There is a reason that the Gators are so adamant about not letting FSU join. They are scared to death of FSU returning to 80s-90s Bowden era levels. Jimbo is already hauling in the talent. Can you imagine if FSU reels off a couple 10+ win years in a row? UF is terrified of that, don't let them kid you. All this scoffing about FSU not selling out their stadium/UF owning the series recently/etc is just whistling past the graveyard.

That's funny coming from a program that's recently been beaten by Mizzou. Funny that a SC fan acts as if SC is badass and mighty when you've really done nothing spectacular in the SEC.
Just keepin it real, brotha.

I disagree.
Going two seasons without winning a single game is extremely spectacular.

In the late 90's USCe went two whole seasons without winning a single game.

Oh. That's hilarious! Even when Mizzou was down in the 80s and early 90s, I don't think we had that kind of season.
Holy crap!

THIS dammitt. We had already expanded into Texas idk why we couldn't just not be greedy for once and get FSU instead of Mizzou, unless FSU just wouldn't join. It's not like Missouri is a huge TV/recruiting area

It's as large as Tennessee in terms of population, dipshit, it also has two large metro areas.
UF dominates the Florida market, adding FSU does not bring that much more money to the negotiating table. Add in the fact that FSU is struggling financially, Mizzou is a better school than FSU, and UF does not want FSU in the SEC... and it would never happen.

If FSU Joins the Big 12...
FSU fits like a hand in a glove with the SEC. Florida needs to suck it up and welcome the 'Noles for the good of the conference.
So, what would you think Florida would have to suck up anything, what would change? Recruiting challenges? Play every year? WTF???
If I had to guess, others that recruit against FSU already would have to be more concerned.
What FSU does will not affect Florida in any way.

Dude, how exactly (with the talent Jimbo is "hauling") is FSU going to come up with 10 wins on a SEC schedule, when they can't even win the ACC??????
Last time FSU won the mighty ACC was in 2005, and they had four loses??? LMAO if you think FSU would be more successful in the SEC.

It could happen if (big IF) the ACC started to break up and UNC was courted by the B1G. If the SEC wanted NCSU, they would split them in a heartbeat in that scenario. The landscape is changing. I don't think the ACC is going to break up, but if it started to then UNC to B1G and NCSU to SEC would be landing everyone on their feet.
Exactly. The last thing UNC wants is a "Tech/Okie Lite problem"--having to try to get a conference to add a school it doesn't want to get the one it does. Texas and OU tried it and it got them nowhere.
The last thing UNC wants is to be saddled in a dying conference when they have the opportunity to get into a stable one, and with another stable conference having more than a passing interest in NCST, wiser and cooler heads will prevail, the schools go their separate and desired ways, and most likely the rivalry game continues unabated.
(UVA is also in a similar boat with VT. Don't think they haven't been looking at the landscape and seeing a win-win for both schools.)
I agree though, it is a BIG IF. If only FSU and Clemson leave, the ACC can easily add UConn and someone else (Rutgers, Louisville, South Florida?) and go on. But if you get four schools leaving then you may see a problem.

I'll agree with you here. There is something rotten at FSU if they can't win with the talent they are getting, moving to a harder conference would only make that worse.
However, if FSU did get in the SEC, it would be foolish to think it couldn't hurt UF long-term. There's a reason your administration does not want FSU in the SEC.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the SEC add North Carolina and Duke together. Sure, that gives another Ole Miss to the football schedule, but then the east and west could have a beat down team. But look at everything that goes on there...that would expand the SEC into North Carolina, give the SEC one of the best school rivalries in college sports, would dramatically increase the baseball and basketball talent of the SEC. I think it could be done. Then again, I wouldn't mind seeing VTech, OKState, or Oklahoma added, either.

I honestly don't see how. We already compete with them for recruits, and play them every year. Their alumni base cannot be compared to Florida's it is simply in a lower tier.
The only way FSU goes back to glory is by winning games, and that wasn't happened with Jimbo in full control for two years.
Every year, FSU is overrated, and that would only get worse with better competition.

If this FSU ordeal really did start pushing the college landscape to 16-team power conferences, the SEC is sitting pretty and will be just fine.
