I like the idea of an FSU/LSU football game
Been to a couple. In fact, my earliest memory of attending a LSU game as a kid was a FSU game in 1981. Missed the Orange Toss game in 1982 but was there for a monsoon against the #1 Seminoles in 1991. We lead going into the 4th quarter before the Noles charged back and reminded us what a terrible hire Curley Hallman was.
It was a good atmosphere when we played them. But their band will drive you insane with that war chant...they play it on practically every down no matter what the situation.

Florida plays fsu every year anyway, it wont make our schedule any easier, they bring nothing to the table. If slive wanted fsu they would have gotten them instead of mizzu, they arent getting in. Vtech and UVa are more likely

I know. My heart sank a little bit when I realized there are now people in our conference that don't know that the Sugar Bowl is the Sugar Bowl.

For obvious reasons, but also, I don't think people realize how nice it is to have the dome so close to the entertainment district. There is no worry about everyone spreading out like there is in LA or Dallas for Jerry World... Or Miami...

Excellent point.

Would it be a lost opportunity for the SEC? I know the SEC isn't interested in adding schools from existing member States. But, FSU would be a big catch for the Big
It would be a bad move for the SEC to have FSU.
Right now, Bama, Ga, Fla and Au can go into north Florida and sell kids on playing in the SEC. If FSU comes into the SEC, you've instantly hurt 4 SEC teams recruiting in that portion of the state of Florida.
I think it might help if they go to the Big 12. Play where you win NC's or where you get the everloving crap beat out of you for NC's?

Boomer Sooner can get pretty testy.

that is what is so great about NOLA. Party in the French Quarter and walk 15 minutes to the Dome. It is the best big event city in the country. Love the restaurants and bars.

I don't the Big 12 has that much respect in the SEC, and I don't see that changing very much. FSU already recruits well against the SEC with the staff they have, and I can't imagine that there would be that much change with a different conference.

Yeah well, LSU used to be able to do that in eastern Texas until Slive went and screwed things up for us.
Damn REC.
Historically LSU does quite a bit of recruiting in Florida as well. Panhandle is a short drive from Baton Rouge (4 hours to P-cola). Though lately Miles hasn't gotten any Panhandle recruits... we're down to only 3 kids from Florida and they are all from Central or South Florida. Blame it on Saban I guess...

I think it'd hurt more than it'd help. Bama gets a few folks from n. florida. I think they could lock that area up a little bit more if they were in the SEC.

I think the question on possible additions hinges on whether the renegotiated SEC TV contract will also bring about the SEC Network cable channel.
If that's the case, then I can't see adding any schools in areas where the SEC already has a footprint (see earlier thread where Killian Russell listed the top 100 media markets) since the network would get $x.xx per subscriber regardless of what school the subscriber supported. But schools in markets not already covered are possibilities as this would add more subscribers and more $$$.
If there is no future network, then it may be better to hammerlock markets you have to add eyeballs and then FSU may be the better option.

I know! And if the quarter isn't your thing, there are so many other parts of the city that are right there, with all sorts of yummy food and fun drinks. LA was fun for the Rose Bowl, but it's just a different fan experience.
The thing that was nice about it being far away was that it kept the riffraff away. No Teabaggers in Beverly Hills...

Okay, if it's per subscriber then why would Florida State be bad for the SEC?
I linked a poll that showed that about 26% of Floridians are self proclaimed Gator fans. 21% claims to be Seminole fans. So Florida State fans represent a very large amount of potential TV viewers in Florida for a SEC network or even CBS or ESPN. 21% of 19 million is a lot of people. LINK
Florida has 3 of the top 20 media markets (#13 Tampa/St. Pete, #16 Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, #19 Orlando). Jacksonville is #47. 4th largest state in the nation. Cut Florida in half and you've still got nearly 10 million people.
What other state besides Texas can compete with that?
If Texas wanted into the SEC, would people be against that purely because "We've already got Texas covered with Texas A&M. Footprint established. No need for another school from the same state."???

Along those lines, could we sell Vandy and the Mississippi schools to the Big 12?
Long term lease with an option to buy?
Wonder what they would fetch on eBay or Craigslist...

That would be a funny thread. Especially if you added Arkansas for giggles.
