Lets say you could get only 1 of the 2
a) Oklahoma
b) Florida State
Who would you take?
If those are my options, and understanding that it would not be in A&M's best interest recruiting wise, I pick Oklahoma. Not only do you add three new market areas (OKC, Tulsa, Lawton) albeit small ones, OU is one of the few truly national powers available so they will bring viewers way beyond their size would indicate.

If FSU has any significant market share of the state of FL (outside Tallahassee), I have no idea where it is.
Seems they just don't have that many fans.
there are 40k+ students attending FSU every year. that's like #2 in the SEC.
they happen to play in a shitty, irrelevant conference that no one gives a shite about.
Steel sharpens steel imo. if they compete with SEC teams it's only a matter of time they'll become relevant. they'll fill up their stadium if teams like Bama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, etc comes to town. or at least away fans will.

This is not true. They just don't wear the gear when they suck. You are just going to have to trust me on this one.
The panhandle is full of Gump sidewalk fans though. That is fur shur.

VT and NCST are the most likely but probably you have to get UVA and UNC into the B1G first (neither of them are interested in the SEC). Duke is unlikely and Wake is Baylor East.
None of the North Carolina teams would ever bolt. As the FSU prez said, ACC is already "Carolina centric".
Virginia Tech could happen. VT didn't play in the same conference with Virginia for a long time.
But the Hokies have rolled up 7 10 win seasons in a row so I'd say the ACC seems to be working out quite well for them. As it once did for FSU...

FSU is more like lead than steel. They will dull us all.
Your infatuation with FSU is waaaaaaay worse than your love for the gawd awful 'rnge.

Wake is more like Vandy lite... to good of a school to compare to Baylor
But they are both Baptist-affiliated schools who suck in sports.

It's sad that you even had to point this out to him.
I just had a vision of Aggie fans down on Bourbon Street. Scary.
Thankfully, that is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Oh I agree there, I would even say they are worse than Baylor in sports.

I see them staying down forever if they stay in that shitty conference.
after all these years, ACC didn't become FSU. FSU became the ACC.
State of Florida is a gold-mine for talent. last thing I want is UF having a monopoly down there while both FSU and Miami's stadiums are nearly empty.

I would support Florida State to the SEC. Sorry roadgator

I'm talking FL in general. I travel all over FL for my job, including the pan handle. They just don't have that many fans.
I'm sure that's true nowadays. Florida State had a large bandwagon contingent in the 90s. The Gators not so long ago won 2 crystal balls.
Sorta related anecdote...
There are a lot of Duck and Beaver fans here in Oregon but I can assure you I've seen a hell of a lot more yellow "O"s on cars the last 3 years than I did the previous 7 years. It used to be roughly balanced but now it's easily 2 to 1 Duck fans.
But here's a non-anecdote.. actual poll data:
quote:
It was a tough year for the Gators and it looks like some fans might be jumping off the bandwagon. In late June we found 30% of Florida fans saying they were Gators fans to 19% for Florida State. Now that gap has closed with 26% identifying as Florida fans to 21% for the Seminoles. Central Florida and Miami tie for 3rd at 11%, followed by South Florida at 8%, and Florida International and Florida Atlantic both at 3%.
LINK
Extrapolate 21% of Florida's 19 million people and Florida State has a fanbase within Florida that is greater in number than a few states in the SEC.
So it may not be patently obvious, but there are a lot of Florida State fans out there and their bandwagon swells when they are doing well.

The theories of getting an Oklahoma, one of the NC schools,UVA or Maryland sounds good but unrealistic and therefore the reason that the SEC should offer more to FSU and Clemson.
Oklahoma will go west before going east. They covet the Pac 12 and the Pac 12 covets them sort of.
Maryland, UVA and the NC schools aren't leaving the ACC. The reason is basketball. All of those schools are academic minded, secondary sport, basketball schools and will not separate. You can read the leaves of the latest additions and see that the ACC knows they are headed for major football extinction and are loading up the best basketball conference in the country to capitilize on.
That leaves the SEC options like this,
FSU-great fit as they are already a SEC style football program and keep the Big 12 out of FL
Clemson-another SEC style football program and classic fit. If we can stomach 2 schools from Alabama and Tennessee then we can have 2 schools in SC.
VT-SEC style right now but do they have long term success? I don't thnk so. When Beamer leaves they could fall quickly. It's not like they stockpile talent now and the coaching is what makes them the program they are. When that's gone will they be good?
Boston College-not a fan of going that far out of the south. Worse than Missouri imo. Other than that would be a decent option
Miami-good for football and baseball and would raise the academic profile. Problem is that FSU is better as an option
Houston-doesn't seem like it now but with SEC money they could be a major force in football and basketball and would further move the SEC into the fertile Houston market. Low on the option list but an open mind and forward thinker will see the tremendous potential of the Houston program
SMU-Dallas combined with SEC money and a history of doing whatever it takes to win equals a huge chance for success.
ND-will never happen but is an option until they make a choice. Whoever lands them is hitting the lottery and they are a major reason the SEC should thwart the Big 12 from getting FSU. I believe ND is going to pair with Texas eventually and that with the FL market equals the biggest TV deal there is.
Who else is there worth taking?

FIFY
In all seriousness, though, it was really weird to hang out with Clemson fans at the '96 Peach Bowl. They use the same songs we do, call their stadium "Death Valley", etc. There's a reason we've only played them twice (both times in bowl games). It's just weird.
So as long as Clemson is never on our permanent schedule, I'd support them.
