What does 21-5 have to do with being blindsided by Petrino’s actions and totally unprepared for a coaching search?

The program wasn't in a shambles during the season. It was left in a shambles though when he forced the school to fire him for cause.

He used Arkansas's athletic department as his personal check book to pay his prostitute and then was fired for doing so. The results of his actions are what led to the down years.

He may be great at recruiting, x's and O's, and gave y'all on the field results, but to not blame him for his own failures in managing the program and his personal life cleanly is just being ignorant.

You have to look close at those 21 wins, who he got them from and who he lost to. While it was fun to win a lot against the mid tier teams, Bobby tend to lose against the physical teams, the teams you have to beat to win any real championship. It's why he never won the SEC and didn't when the Sugar bowl, he couldn't win the big games when it counted.

Plus, like all coaches like him he had no defense.. which is why he didn't win the big ones. In a way he is like Lincoln Riley, amazing offensive, shitty defensive.. and like OU, would blow teams out but when it counted would get beat.

I read an article about the BP’s Arkansas days, I think 2 years, he finished 2nd in offense in the SEC, in a time where defense’s were in charge. Was that reporter hype or truthful?

How did the team do in 2012? I'd call a -7 in the win column shambles.

I'm not a fan of the hire but to be fair, they replaced him w/a mediocre coach in John L Smith who was massively distracted as his personal life was in full meltdown w/his brother dying and his finances going up in smoke all during the season.

quote:

The Razorbacks interim coach drew ridicule for opening his news conference Monday by telling news reporters to "Smile! SMILE!" Wednesday, USA TODAY Sports reported Smith owed almost $25 million to creditors and had only $500 in his checking account.

According to a release from the school Friday, Smith is attending the funeral of his younger brother Bart, who died Monday -- the same day as Smith's news conference antics, which went viral, and the same day he signed off on new bankruptcy documents. Bart Smith was 53.

Here's the statement from Arkansas football media relations director Zack Higbee:

"Coach John L. Smith flew to Idaho Falls last night following practice to attend the funeral of his brother (Bart) who passed away Monday. The funeral is being held this afternoon and Coach Smith will return to Fayetteville early this evening."

Truth, his passing game is one if not the best there is. His receivers run amazing routes and just in general it's tight. Offensive was never the problem...

Unless he left the program with multiple hardcore sanctions or something, a coach “leaving a program in shambles” is really just a blame game. Fans have to point the finger at a scapegoat because they don’t like to face the fact that without an exceptional coach, their program just isn’t very good.

He was a good coach but he's a shite recruiter and that's a fact. He's great for a flash in the pan success but he was on the cusp of burning out here even without the motorcycle.

Suck his dick if you have to. But I won't.

Petrino is a better coach than most people are willing to admit. Maybe more than they realize, but he can coach. Many of the games he lost were due to poor officiating and likely intentionally poor officiating.

Having said that, his recruiting was suffering and the 2012 team would have still been overrated had he remained at Arkansas. I'm not saying it would have been bad, but it would have been a step backwards from the previous two years.

Y'all were rolling under Petrino.
Down years started upon his departure.

Jeff Long hated Petrino. He wanted any reason to get rid of him, and the motorcycle wreck was it. frick Jeff Long.

My darkest day as a Hog fan was when count face Long made the announcement he was firing Petrino.

ETA: Long cared nothing about winning. frick him.
