I sure hope the SEC keeps CBS in the next TV contract renewal...

I contend CBS' production makes your team look better than they really are. They no doubt put out the best TV production for both college football and the NFL.
NBC is pretty close with what they do with Sunday Night Football and Notre Dame football. But that is about it.
Unfortunately some of ESPN's work is closer to a High School game TV production than it is CBS.
CBS with the best damn intro theme song to boot too.

True. Some of their camera shots are the best in the business.

Also true.
But their biggest problem is you hear their regular theme so much because of the ungodly amounts of commercials they go to.

only if they get rid of Gary

I do too. ESPN/ABC's college football coverage has been dogshit since they ran off Brent Musburger.

I feel so bad for Nessler. A true professional who is forced to sit next to a steaming pile of shite for 3 hours every Saturday.

If we go ESPN/ABC only, you pretty much become ACC.
Having a network CBS to our conference only really probably adds more to our perception than you think.
CBS could televise/produce Mizzou/Vandy and make it look & sound interesting with two good teams playing. Compare that to some of the ESPN2/U broadcasts that are almost hard to watch.
I just hope the SEC is not just looking at dollar signs when making the next deal. Because long term it could cost you. A young high school recruit watching a CBS game like Saturday nights wants that. They don't want the shitty coverage you get on ESPN sometimes.

CBS will not be a part of the next package (after 2023).

CBS will walk away from the SEC when its contract ends after the 2023 football season, and all indications are that the package will move to ESPN/ABC. CBS decided to exit the negotiations for college football's most-watched TV package after making an aggressive bid in the neighborhood of $300 million per season -- a massive increase from the $55 million it currently pays annually. CBS Sports execs decided that it made more sense to invest the money they would have paid the SEC into other sports. When contacted this afternoon by SBJ, CBS Sports PR emailed the following statement: “We made a strong and responsible bid. While we‘ve had success with the SEC on CBS, we are instead choosing to aggressively focus on other important strategic priorities moving forward.”
Multiple sources said ESPN/ABC is in the final stages of negotiating a deal that is expected to pay more than six times the $55 million per year fee that CBS currently pays, sources said. Fox Sports execs still are planning to make an official bid presentation at SEC HQ in Birmingham next month. But sources say ESPN’s negotiations are in the final stages. ESPN and Fox Sports would not comment.

Right now CBS is getting the sweetest deal ever in terms of what they're paying us. The SEC will shop it to the highest bidder and we'll all make bank. I would guess ABC/ESPN wins it.

My point is CBS gives you more than just $$$, and you got to take that into account.
A big part of our perception being the NFL-Lite is because of what CBS does for us.

We're NFL light because we have the best players by far. I enjoy CBS's broadcast, but what ESPN or Fox provides are comparable.

quote:I agree with you, but, CBS pissed away all its goodwill with the conference when the only concession they would make after A&M and Missouri joined was to allow SECN to air a game opposite their 2:30 window. Once they did that, the only way they were getting a contract extension was if they were the high bidder.

Two words that are in favor of CBS "Beth Mowins". She was SO bad the Belk Bowl changed it's name.

Yeah but the four hours for a game crap needs to be fixed. There’s an hour of game time and three hours of commercials

Fox >> ABC.
I don't think I can stand hearing Fowler/Herbstreit calling our biggest games.
