I hate to throw LSU fans a bone today, but Riley is scared of the SEC

I’ve heard multiple times that Lincoln Riley was not a fan of Oklahoma going to the SEC. That is the reason he is leaving Oklahoma for USC.

He knows his free ride to a conference title every year was about to get hit by a bus named the Southeastern Conference.

That is true. He didn't want to compete, so he took the easy way out.

But, SoCal > BR

Doubtful. If Bama had offered he would be in Tuscaloosa today.

Sure, cities like Santa Barbara are pretty amazing. But USC is located in a shitty part of LA over two hours away from there. And LA is overcrowded, has absurdly high cost of living, horrible traffic, and is shockingly dirty. I have never understood the appeal of living there. So maybe true that SoCal > BR if you are cherry-picking nice cities hours away from USC's campus. .

What is wrong going out west and only having to battle Oregon for a chance to play in the CFP?

Have an opportunity to go out there and raise back a college football storied program. He already recruits there and has connections. He has a chance to build something special.

You arm chair coaches are something else.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, just acknowledging that LSU fans might not be as delusional as a lot of y'all are claiming regarding the prestige of their program.

Considering LSU was told weeks ago that LR wasn`t
interested in the job,SW knows what he is doing. Now the
new hire might not be be liked by tiger fans but I feel
it will be a major upgrade over the last 2 clowns.

I had concerns re: his defenses and his teams general lack of toughness. Nothing that has transpired since Saturday makes me upset in the slightest that he wasn’t SW’s guy after all.

Any coach who comes the SEC needs to revel in competition, not run from it.

Per OU forums, he never did satisfactorily explain why he was against OU moving to the SEC, to the extent he lobbied OU's president to change his mind. Now, he's taking a lot less money to move to a city that is, at least, 2,3 times the cost of living than either Norman or Baton Rouge. Leaving the obvious: a one league team, the Ducks, vs just the SEC West. It's not a coincidence that a former SEC West DC shut down his high powered offense; he had to be very much aware of that dynamic multiplied times 4-5-6 times in the SEC.

The only way riley could have gotten further away from the SEC is if he took the hawaii job.

Long term this is fascinating. Will SEC teams miss out on some coaching talent as those guys look for an easier path? There’s only so many of those jobs around because the program still has to be big enough to pull in recruits but I can see USC, Miami, Clemson, and Oregon pulling in coaches out of their league due to perceived ease of competition.

Good point. I do believe that a strong PAC-12 is better for college football. Each conference having strong contenders representing different parts of the country is a good thing so I hope he revives the program and has them in the playoffs soon.

Not so sure about that anymore. Anyone paying attention to current events in CA would question this.

BUT, I’ve said repeatedly that people in that tax bracket are very insulated from the dregs of society wherever they live.

I don’t think people understand the difference in cost of living and taxes
