I give LSU credit. They did what they had to do to keep Aranda.

It was clear there was a coordinated effort from recruits to the governor. That along with 10M and other assurances kept one of the best DCs in BR.

However, this opens up other issues.

How much can LSU afford? We know the state is strapped for cash so when they spend at this level it is going to be highly scrutinized. If Canada is in fact fired that means LSU is on the hook for 3 M (paid over 3 years), the cost of a quality new OC (1-1.5M per over 3-4 years), Aranda (2.5 per over 4 years), O (3.5 per over 4 years), & Leslie who is still owed 6 M (paid over 4 more years). That is 10 M locked in per year (before assistants) For the next 4 years. Does anyone really believe O can lead this group to true on field success? I know most of the LSU fans I’ve interacted with don’t. From an outsider, I expect more success at the level Les was fired for. Solid talent, good D, 4 losses a year.

We know there was conflict with Aranda and Canada this year. That conflict is what lead to Aranda looking for a way out and Canada being fired. Do we expect Aranda to play nice with the new OC? How is Ed handling the fact that his coordinator makes about three quarters of what he does when I would guess most coordinators make around 20% or less than their HC.

Congratulations on winning short term, but I think long term you just pushed out the mediocrity. I think LSU would have been better off long term to bite the bullet, clean house (ad too), and rebuild.

Best case scenario here for LSU is to let DA do the sweeping now

We thought we did and then y’all matched. A third offer would seem desperate so we left it alone.

He will be a good head coach for y’all one day.

This narrative has gotten so absurd. LSU has as much as anyone in the conference if they want to spend it. If yesterday doesn’t prove that to you I don’t know what will.

The athletic department operates on a budget separate from the school — in fact the athletic department actually donates money to the school each year.

According to Business Insider, LSU is the 7th most profitable athletic department in the nation. They have the money, but to your point, it does seem to be mismanaged. Alleva is overpaid if he makes anything more than $1 annually.

Your an idiot OP. You obviously have no inside info on the LSU program. LSU has plenty of money from the athletic dept. How about sticking with your A&M team with all that inside info instead. I have to say by far A&M posters bring nothing to any type of discussion on this board but hey thanks for the inside info

This.

Aggie got what they wanted. LSU fan got what they wanted and will get it moreso in the future. Had to keep this guy, Captain Caveman cannot be left fully in charge, everyone with common sense knows this.

Seems introverted but HC now just have Of doing all the pressers

I don't think 2.5 is crazy for what he means to us. Also if Aggies are really all in what is 3.5m to them?

Anyone with a brain realizes that the money paying coaches salaries is coming from a different pool than tax payer money that goes to the university.

We do?

It isn't "state money" that pays these salaries. The LSU athletic department is revenue positive.

Aranda IS an "assistant" coach.

Sure. Is he a "great" HC? No. But, LSU played winning football AFTER the Troy debacle, etc. Is success a CERTAINTY? No, indeed. Is it POSSIBLE? Certainly. Is it LIKELY? Unsure

Miles wasn't fired for the lack of success (Record-wise). He was fired because even his VICTORIES felt like an arse-whipping. His offense was so 'old school' that the wins were too excruciating and was very much in doubt even when they should not have been. He was retained with a promise to CHANGE the offense. He did NOT make that change and was fired.

How is this a "known"? I don't know that as a fact. There was conflict between O and Canada. Canada will either be replaced or the conflict will be resolved.

I suspect he feels fortunate and happy to be a HC at all and the LSU HC especially.

I have zero animosity toward aTm. When it appeared that Aranda was going there, I did not post one derogatory thing about the Aggies, Aranda, or the deal (we thought was in place). I am simply responding to the questions you raised.

That’s the thing- he simply isn’t that valuable to us.

I mean do you see Aranda or ANY other DC getting us to be a top 50 defense next year with our talent? The answer is no. So there is a limit on what any DC is worth to us.

The Aranda hire was purely for recruiting and to frick over LSU. Thanks to an early signing day the recruiting benefits were limited, and while fricking over LSU is funny we have all seen it doesn’t guarantee a win for A&M. So there was a practical limit for how much he was worth to us.

Congratulations to LSU for spending more for a coach y’all need more. That is how things should work, but sometimes priorities get fricked up.
