Won what? A bunch of games or a Superbowl? It would probably depend on his OC. Brees and Sean Payton were a match made in heaven but they only won one.

Just peaked my interest when brought it up in Herbstreit interview

He acted like maybe things would be different. He wasn't cut out for NFL game.

The Dolphins players were ready to kick his arse, he did not know how to coach adults. Some people just aren’t cut out to succeed at the highest level.

I don’t think Brees would have fared as well in the type of offense saban ran at that time
Now I do think saban would have evolved over time but Payton Brees was a perfect marriage

Offensive staff was pretty solid for the time

Offensive coordinator – Mike Mularkey
Quarterbacks – Jason Garrett
Running backs – Bobby Williams
Tight ends – Derek Dooley
Offensive line – Hudson Houck
Assistant offensive line – Tim Davis
Offensive assistant – James Coley

Terrible take

Given everything we know and can look back on, there’s no reason to think he wasn’t/couldn’t have been a solid NFL head coach.

ETA: And more importantly, there isn’t much evidence that he was a BAD NFL head coach. Even in the little vacuum that we have to observe.

Just a silly, lazy take that was fun for fans who hated him. Can’t believe we’re still doing it.

He really wasn't. He finished his career with a losing record but 15-17 at Miami during that period is nothing to sneeze at. They were 4-12 the year before he got there and 1-15 the year after he left.

Not saying he couldn't or wouldn't have succeeded in the NFL but very few coaches have done it in both college and the league. He saw the writing on the wall and there is a reason he openly admits regretting leaving college for the pros.

Everything I've heard was nobody was sad to see Saban leave. He tried to treat pros like college students and that didnt work. They once pranked him, the robotic coach, with a stripper, for crying out loud, the vets laughed and laughed as he ran to his office. Wasnt a good fit.

That pair would have won a lot of games. Buddy of mine played HS football with him at Westlake HS. Said he was way more athletic than folks gave him credit for.

Lol wut?

They started the season 1-7 and didn’t have a single win in their division the weekend before Shula got fired. They won their only division game right in the middle of the rumors.

2005 Miami in the AFC East, knowing what was coming, is a whole different animal than the 2006-2010 NFC South. I do not think he would have excelled with Drew either. He may have been better than how it turned out but I don’t see them being any better than what Drew had done in San Diego. Maybe a little better. Maybe not.

I think he may have still won some games though, and gave it more of a run than he ended up doing.

But to all the LSU people who think he’d have won title after title here - I disagree with that as well. Alabama would have eventually rebounded with someone, turning on the Bama recruit machine. Let’s think of Saban coaching the teams that Les had… maybe even a few better players at some positions. And look, I obviously love LSU. But it’s not apples to apples between these schools.

Long story short, Nick wouldn’t have ever won a Super Bowl in Miami. But he also wouldn’t have won as many titles in Baton Rouge as he did in Tuscaloosa. In the end, we did ok. The 2003 title, 2007 title, 2009 Saints Super Bowl (arguably the greatest sports feat.. and ensuing months long party that I’ll ever live to see), the 2011 season (not the ending) and the 2019 title was quite the windfall.

I’m pretty happy with the way it all turned out.
