I changed my mind about the Tenn revolt today

At first I was skeptical, and who can blame me? It seemed obvious to everyone that the backlash was because they expected a better coach. We doubted the sincerity of their claims it had to do with the Penn St thing and just assumed they thought they deserved a guy with a better coaching record.
But then I really got to thinking about it and that doesn’t make sense. Tenn fans have to KNOW that they can’t reject a guy like Schiano and expect someone with a better resume to actually take the job. They have to know what they did would look bad to the next coach, and would basically take their name out of the running for any coach any other SEC team would actually want as their head coach. They had to know.
Therefore unless the Tennessee fan base is the dummest and most entitled fan base in the sport (they can’t be- UF fans are) then it makes sense that they actually did this for right reasons and are willing to accept the consequences of shitty seasons for their actions. And with them rallying around Tee, a candidate that no other Power 5 program wants, it seems clear they made the choice to stand up for what they believe in over actually being good at football.
In which case I salute you Tenn fans, no troll. It is rare in this day and age for people to put their principles above success on the football field.

It's 99% that Schiano wasn't good enough for them. 1% the possible Penn St connection.
Come on baw

The AD vetted the guy and caved to a twitter mob. There is obviously no leadership in knoxville, and the patients are running the hospital.

Decent point of view, thanks.

Epic Fail.

I don't care that he's with Ohio State right now, but there's literally not a shred of evidence that wasn't retracted hearsay.
The fact that UT fans think they are standing on some moral high ground when their previous head coach shunned players who reported sexual assault but was given a pass by UT fans is all you need to know.
They are a clown show

I would rather go 4-8 every year with a HC that's a good human than win 10 National Championships with a coach who possibly covered up child rape.
This was bigger than football. It was about being a decent human being. This wasn't "he wasn't Gruden"

Not reading all that. VOLS showed who was really in charge

Unless they completely don’t understand how football works they would have to know torpedoing a hire would make the job seem toxic to the next guy and force them to consider a lower tier of coach.
I can’t believe a fan base of a team that used to be good at football is that stupid when it comes to football. I think they sacrificed the program to not have any association with Penn St.
If anything the alternative motive was realizing how hopeless it is to compete against Saban and hope to save a little money LSU-style while he is at Bama. But I doubt that.

The fans pick the head coach?
That sounds like a great way to run things.

Exactly. You have to admire that in this day and age.
I mean, Nebraska killed their program for ten years just because they didn’t like nine wins. At least Tenn feels like they will have a reason for sucking the next couple of years.

The Haslams have done a WONDERFUL job since Dickey left in 2002, you’re right we should just let them pick another coach

You are severely overestimating the ability of a lathered up mob to use reason.
UT fans are broke dick dogs at the moment. They've been battered for a long time and most of them still remember the taste of being elite. They had convinced themselves that THIS was the time they turned it all around. They would make an absolute HR, game changing type hire and finally bring UT back to elite status. When it became very apparent that wasn't going to happen, they flipped shite and decided they would nuke their own program. The Pedo St stuff was just a thing. If it was a coach they wanted it would have been explained away by every Vol fan on the internet.
You know this. Act right

If anything this thread is me being annoyingly smart.
One of the Vandy fans will appreciate it.

Go look at the first few pages of the Schiano thread on the CC board yesterday. It wasn't just VOLS fans bringing up his past initially

Since when is it "leadership" to go "F#&% YOU, fans and boosters that pay our bills. You're going to get this guy you hate and you'll LIKE it!"
The vast majority of the Schiano Rah Rah on the Rant comes from opposing fans that want to see Tennessee kept down. Be honest about THAT.

Why hasn't it been brought while he's been at Ohio State?
He was vetted, an investigation was done, and nothing was found.
Tennessee did their own vetting and investigation, found nothing, checked with Ohio State for more information, and they offered him the job.
If there was anything out there about this, he wouldn't be at Ohio State, let alone UT.
