FML. The slow decline appears to be legit.

Alabama and Saban will be just fine. Bama is not going to decline as much as you think even if Saban were to somehow go off the deep end. They'll always find a way to cheat and steal their way to the top.

STFU. He always hires up and comers as the DC. Not guys that have been passed around like a groupie whore.

Out of all the defensive coaches in America this dude was the guy Saban wanted when he became Alabama's coach in 2007.

He must like him.

Not sure why Auburn fans seem to believe that Bama will cease to be Bama even if Saban hangs it up. I don't get that at all.

The answer is that they're really, really, really stupid. We have owned LSU for 120 years. Long before Saban was born.

So Steele is a retread? He was a current DC at UM.

Exactly my point. Miami is a has been school, so they would hire a retread.

He’s at a point where he clearly has more days behind than ahead and up and coming coordinators are going to steer clear and go for coaches a little closer to their generation.
Hes a great coach and smart guy, but he’s entering the twilight of his career and coaches are going to go when they realize each season may very well be his last.

Outside of the MD coach, it’s been a minute since another school hired a Saban assistant for head coach.

Meanwhile in Athens

Lanning - Oregon (top 10 job)
Tucker - Mich St (top 20 job)
Pittman - Arkansas (top 20 job)

Kirby has multiple current coaches on current staff likely to get top jobs over next 2-5 yrs.

Meanwhile Saban will be 72 and missing out on top 3 choices for OC and DC

Pete Golding was in his 30s when he got the job so not sure what the correlation is to age.

Steele is a proven commodity, has worked with CNS before and recruits pretty well.

Setting aside some of the obvious trolling it seems like a pretty good hire to me.

Both are settle hires and it's that simple but if the man re-commits himself to winning, it won't matter.

If however he brings the same lacsidasical mentality this coming season, he brought last season, then the Alabama decline will indeed be real.

BoB and Golding weren't the problem. Last season Saban was focused on hotel ventures, car dealerships and insurance commercials. His team reflected this truth. If he gets his head back in the game, Alabama is off to Atlanta. If not, he'll end his career in the Kotex Bowl.
