No, Paul Johnson out of retirement

Yes. Paul Johnson.

I would love to see Bill Clark or Paul Johnson at Auburn strictly from an interest standpoint.

I don't think Paul Johnson will ever coach again at a P5 program. He probably doesn't want to, and I don't think another P5 program would want his offensive style anyway. Not that it's ineffective, just too unconventional.

I doubt Bill Clark will end up at Auburn, but it wouldn't shock me if it happened at some point. He's only 52. But I think he will need a successful stint at a P5 school before that would happen.

Arkansas blew it by not hiring Bill Clark. My guess that ship will have sailed in four years when they will be looking for their next coach.

As I understand it he wasn't particularly interested in leaving the state of Alabama. It is not that we didn't express interest, it is that he doesn't want to leave his home state. He's not interested in a big coaching job that isn't next to home.

From what I hear a few P5 programs have thrown out some lines to Clark and he's passed them by. He is where he wants to be. He's spent his life coaching in Alabama. He wants to retire as a coach in Alabama.

If Auburn goes away from Gus... they have to hire Clark. He wants an Alabama job. He would be awesome in that job.

I wish he was an Arkansas guy. He isn't. He will never be. Pittman is an Arkansas guy. I'm OK with the hire even though we are probably going to have a horrible season while we try to recruit our way out of this mess.

I don't think Clark leaves the state of Alabama unless someone backs up a dumpster truck of money. Even then I give a fifty/fifty chance he still stays in Alabama.

I can unequivocally state that Auburn won’t fire Gus Malzahn for the next 2 seasons. Auburn is going to take huge hit financially as is every program.

Don't forget recruiting is the key! Arkansas is too far down to make any noise for this year and in the near future!

Agreed. Any hope anybody had prior to Covid of Gus being fired for an 8 win or less season is now out the window. Not too many people voluntarily parting with large loads of money right now.

I really do think this is the issue, if you look at his coaching history. All in the state of Alabama. He even stayed in-state and came right back to UAB when they reopened their program. What he's done there is actually unprecedented for UAB, it can't be understated how hopeless and shitty that football team has always been. I'm mostly upset because I know we didn't try THAT hard to persuade him. He will absolutely end up at Auburn, and I think he could win them a championship.

Bill Clark is one hell of a good coach and could win big at AU as long as he has the support of the big money guys.

Nick Saban would struggle there if the power brokers weren’t on board IMO.

You mean at Arkansas? I would see that Saban would struggled there.
