Some interesting things. YPA is way up, interceptions way down. QB Rating way up. Fumbles are also down significantly too but not shown on these charts.
Yards are stable so far (2016 stats are through 15 games vs. 11 games in 2017).

He's alright, but no Nick Fitzpatrick

What are his stats against P5 opponents?
Legitimately asking.
I want to gauge his potential performance against Auburn.

He's really good. Can't get much better then a QB that doesn't turn the ball over.

Yep. Very smart with the football.

How sad is it that I forgot that JJ and JF3 were our QB’s for that game? It was so bad it became a repressed memory

Hurts is really good at intermediate deep throws to the middle of the field. He's also done a good job taking care of the football. However, he's pretty flawed everywhere else. He can't throw to the left. He hasn't even completed a throw to the left over 20 yards downfield this season. His completion percentage under 10 yards throwing to the left is below average (Barely over 50%) as well. Furthermore, his accuracy throwing the ball more than 20 yards downfield is very bad (completion percentage under 30%). He's also been terrible throwing the ball under pressure (35% completion percentage and barely 4 YPA). There's also the fact that he tends to hold on to the ball too long and take way too unneccessary sacks. Alabama can do a lot worse than Hurts but I feel like they can do better as well.

It's still pretty obvious you are not throwing the ball as much. I am sure that is by design. The INTS is the stat that jumps out at me the most, though.

I don’t expect him to fumble 4 times and throw 2 interceptions again.
Or was it fumble 2 times?

Hurts is a really good QB. He will be hard to deal with.

Jalen is cool as a cucumber. I've never seen him rattled in 2 years. I hope Auburn can rattle him a bit, but I'm not counting on that

Daboll has a differ not philosophy than Kiffin for sure but one thing not considered is how little Hurts has played this season compared to last. There have been multiple games where he sat the entire second half.
Last year he needed the experience, this year Tua needs the reps.

Didn't Kiffin use the shuttle/whoopie pass on the sweep a lot last season, accounting for a lot of completions?

Didn't do the calculation exactly, but eye balling it says to expect Hurts to go:
~12/20 for 175, 1 TD, 0 INT, 12 for 50 rushing, 1 TD.
At nearly 16 yards per completion, that tells me he's hitting a long ball or two. He's also not as dangerous with his legs except for escaping the pocket.
He's very much a typical Saban QB. Doesn't lose games. Makes a few good plays per game to keep the offense ahead.
I still feel like he has his best game in him. He misses a few deep balls every game, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit them against any opponent. Auburn has had issues defending the long ball if they can get thrown. If Biff told me that Hurts will go 12/14 for 250 with two TDs 60+ yards, I wouldn't be surprised.

Is the difference in cmp because of running the jet sweep so much last year? Maybe a combination of that and him playing only like half games about 4 or 5 times this season.
Posted on 11/24/17 at 8:09 am to Kcoyote
Of course his YPA is up as of now, he’s down 180 attempts from last year

Honestly the last few games I think I've seen real improvements towards taking that next step. Even against LSU when they were running on us and the offense seemed to be sleepwalking he made some nice throws and is leading receivers better for the catch and run as well as has more confidence and accuracy in the mid-range throws when scrambling.
Hoping he has a "break out" game here because I am slightly worried about Auburn's offense at home with all the different defensive packages Alabama has been forced to use this year.
