How spineless is Joe Alleva?

First he bows to crazy fan pressure and fires a national-title winning coach who had a better conference record than Nick Saban because Nick Saban broke that fanbase and LSU fans were convinced they should be better than winning an average of 10 games a year.
Then he hires the bumbling interim coach because the players liked him and many fans related to the way he talked.
Then he lets a real AD negotiate him into a corner and gives away two consecutive home games because of a hurricane.
Then he caves into fan pressure to reinstate a coach who was caught on wiretap offering to pay players, basically begging the NCAA to come in after the FBI's investigation is finished and wipe away their entire program under "lack of institutional control."
Will LSU's athletic program survive Joe Alleva?

Don't forget that LSU hired him after the Duke lacrosse fiasco

Well, if we want to get technical he wasn't on wiretap offering to pay players. He is on wiretap discussing an offer with Dawkins. But, I suppose that's viewed as semantics.

quote:Regardless, do LSU fans really think this is it and Wade's out of the woods? Honest question. Dawkins is the FBI's big fish, but the NCAA is going to have different priorities. Do we really think the NCAA is going to let something as nationally visible as this scandal go away? This is the same NCAA that gave Missouri a post-season ban for self-reporting a rogue tutor.

I understand why LSU fans want the guy back, winning is winning, but you'd think Alleva would have more of a spine and try to protect the program despite fan backlash.

yes, he did, but it wasn't until he was winning Natties at Bama.
Don't forget. Our coach didn't leave us for "retirement", to actually go back to his alumni.
Saban is more like a Spurrier situation.
All in all, we could make the same damn argument against Gator fans saying that Urban leaving "broke" you. I'd be mad too if I could only win the SEC East.

I do not

I think it all depends on how many schools are involved at the end and if they really want to expend their resources investigating 20-30 schools. If they have to put that many schools on probation, they are going to lose so much money in March.

Wade himself is on wiretap. He won't have a fall guy.

The NCAA was at the meeting between Wade and LSU. Wade got reinstated afterwards. Who knows what was said or agreed upon between those 3 but Wade is safe right, wrong, or indifferent.
If the NCAA had a slamdunk case against a non traditional basketball power would the wait to punish them, or would they make an example of them (see Ole Miss Football)?

But right now the three programs that are on the hot seat are LSU, Arizona, and Kansas, and you can be sure as hell who the NCAA will go after of those three. And if LSU is still at the forefront of the FBI stuff, reinstating Wade won't look good to the NCAA. Acting swiftly and going in a different direction might have given LSU some points in a worst-case scenario, but now, if that worst-case scenario happens, the NCAA will wipe LSU's basketball program off the face of the earth.

Miles’ last three seasons he averaged 8 wins a season
