Yep, serious question. Go ahead with the inevitable Aggie buttplay jokes, I know they're coming.

I was sitting here thinking about what if Ohio State ended up joining us along with other B1G and PAC schools who prioritize football. What would that do to Kentucky's in roads in Ohio? Probably not much, the best Ohio guys go to OSU of course but weve gotten plenty of good ones and beaten OSU for several as well. Part of that is the appeal of playing in the SEC.

So I look at how Arkansas has fallen off the face of the map, and yes part is post Petrino coaching turnover, but whereas Arkansas was able to recruit Texas players to play in the SEC before, now youve got aTm giving those same guys a much much easier sell.

So I just wondered, has this been a real hindrance on the recruiting trail for the Hogs? Just mind bogglong to me to see where Arkansas is currently with their proud tradition and history there.

From a Hog fan, the impact is minimal. We just have had an unfortunate turn of luck that coincided nicely with aTm.

aTm has accomplished exactly zero notable hardware since joining the SEC; just like Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tenn, MSU. Every program has their down years every now and then; especially non-blue bloods.

They've definitely been pushed down in the pecking order.

Used to be clearly delineated for Miss schools.

No because it hasn't impacted LSU
LSU has always recruited Texas and done well
There is a ton of talent in Texas and even the players Ark is getting from Texas are better than the overall talent level in Arkansas.
Ark needs to attack neighboring Louisiana like TCU does.
TCU has gotten some really under the radar prospects out of LA over the years who do very well over there.

No, Arkansas leaving the SWC hurt Texas recruiting but it's been virtually the same since A&M joined that it was before. However A&M has signed more so I guess you could say it's helped them more than it's hurt us.

All I know is that Arkansas has had a rough stretch of coaching let downs. Gotta coach em up if you aren't pulling 4 and 5 stars at every position.

Well said. We love to talk about the advantages that, say, Alabama has but when they had poor coaches they usually had mediocre results. Or worse.

We have had absolutely horrible coaches for 8 years now and we are reaping what we've sewn.

ATM joining has not hurt us at all. We have hurt us with our poor choices for head coach. We are our own worst enemy. Hopefully Pittman can either correct that, or at least staunch the bleeding.

This has been our problem. We haven't hired good coaches in the last 7 years.

Us moving over should have helped you as well in Texas IMO. Bielema was toxic for that relationship and I think the Morris hire was well intentioned he just wasn’t a very good coach. Arkansas should be winning recruiting battles over programs like Ok State and Baylor every single time I think.

But I agree with the general conclusion it’s been bad coaching hires, not us joining the conference

I agree with this. How else do you justify leaving the SWC hurting Arkansas, but it not helping when A&M joins the SEC, if not bad coaching? A&M has recruited better since joining the SEC and has been beating Arkansas in Texas recruiting at least since we left the SWC.

Our problem is that we haven't given Texas players any reason to want to come to Arkansas. Once we start winning again, that will change.

Pittman has done a pretty good job at winning recruiting battles against Oklahoma State for Oklahoma kids so far. Other than Kendall Briles and our DB coach Sam Carter who played at TCU we don't have as many Texas coaching connections on this staff as Morris had, but his staff was just so inexperienced.

I do think Morris was a good Texas recruiter but it doesn't really matter if you can't coach worth a crap. Plus a lot of that was Jeff Traylor.

We have managed to build a 8-0 record against a certain SEC West opponent since joining the conference.

Arkansas not playing any Texas teams in the 90s hurt recruiting in Texas.

Sam is recruiting Oklahoma harder than previous coaches. He already has six players from the state.

You forgot about the OL coach that helped Arkansas with recruiting and coaching the OL. When Pittman left Bert and Arkansas thenings quickly fell apart. He was the key coach that made the difference at Arkansas. Now he is back but will he be ale to fix what he destroyed when he left Arkansas? I know Pittman didn't think it would be his fault that Arkansas didn't find a good replacement at OL and recruiter that actually held Arkansas together and be respectable. He wanted the job because no other worthy HC wanted the job. He wanted to come back and try to fix all what he had done for Arkansas when he was the OL coach there. He is Arkansas last hope to get Arkansas back to competing again.

They aren't necessary better in Texas, they just have a lot more than Arkansas.

A school called Pulaski Academy beat a certain Texas school.

Pulaski Academy vs. Highland Park

The media was in complete denial that Highland lost to a team from Arkansas.

High school football in Arkansas is underdeveloped and wasted. The Little Rock area is a good example of wasted talent or kids just not caring a bout football unless it involves basketball.

A&M joining the SEC has nothing to do with our recruiting in Texas, we have failed to recruit Texas harder.

Besides Arkansas, our historical recruiting areas are.

Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee and Mississippi. We have been recruiting Georgia lately.

Arkansas and Mississippi both have the disadvantage of smaller populations compared to other SEC states and thus have less available in state talent. Both state populations are around 3 million. Alabama and South Carolina are near 5 million and Louisiana is near 4.7 million which gives schools within those states an advantage over them.

Yeah we definitely can't get by on just Arkansas kids, although our best teams in the SEC have been mostly led by them (Darren McFadden, Matt Jones, the Petrino WRs, etc.).

I've brought it up on here before but if we could just recruit Texas like Oregon recruits California we'd be set. Oregon doesn't produce many great football players either but they get a crap ton of talent from nearby California. Of course, they've been winning for a while now which is something we need to do too. That probably helps a lot.
