How much did football play in your college decision?

I’ve been thinking this week, how much did the college football team factor into your decision to attend a certain school? Were you willing to sacrifice academic prestige to go to a school with an elite football team? If a school has an elite football program, do you overlook the fact that said school is in the middle of a state that has to fight off Mississippi and Louisiana for 48th place?

What says the rant?

Full ride scholarship trumps football allegiance.

Luckily, the scholarship was to UGA.

Would love to go to Arkansas, but my education benefits are better here in my home state for me.

None whatsoever. I grew up an Old Piss fan and went to State on an athletic scholarship.

The Rant says that the idea behind this troll was good enough, but the execution failed near the end. You have to be willing to keep it subtle the whole way through.

My family couldn't afford college for me or my brothers and sister. I thank God every day for a baseball scholarship from Georgia.

It played a very big role. I went to a school that offered me a scholarship to play football.

I picked Notre Dame over places like Vandy, Northwestern, Georgetown, and WashU in large part because of the great athletics and gameday vibe. Also I’m in the marching band here which is a blast!

I followed pussy. By that I mean my girlfriend. By girlfriend I mean my wife of 27 years.

That I could enjoy football and study engineering and fly planes were added bonuses.

Did I mention pussy?

None. The academic program offered (and financial aid) > any sports programs at the school. I can always go and catch my favorite team's games on the weekends.

I wouldn't say that it was football/athletics that took me to UGA, but rather deep family history at the school. Having the Zell Miller scholarship offered for in-state kids was pretty neat as well.

It actually did break a tie for me. I was gonna go to South Alabama, but then a friend said “just come watch SEC football at State”. Now, keep in mind, this was immediately following Croom. So I went strictly to watch football, but not necessarily good football. It’s much better now that I’m out of college.

Any P5 D1 school was acceptable to me, followed a full ride to LSU though. Alternate was Michigan.

A&M sucks at football. You’re not very smart if that had anything to do wirh your college decision.
