Gus came the closest in 2013.

As far as the SCAM remarks, don't trash talk til you are relevant. You also just hired an offensive coach.

Guess it's a good thing LSU has a defensive genius too! Aranda's boys are getting healthy and playing great. Yes they should've stayed motivated in the Ole Miss blow out, but it was the week after the Bama game.

Imho the AU 2010 Scam team was the only one with a somewhat weak defense to win the Natty. They did have a good pass rush but their secondary was terrible.

LSU was starting to show some defense in the last couple of games albeit vs really weak offenses. But, I don't know if it is enough to beat complete teams like Clemson & OSU.

Fulmer was OC at UT before he was promoted to HC.

ETA...but it was Cutcliffe's Offense that won the NC for him (even though Cutcliffe had already left for Ole Miss for the NC game)

And if you look at the teams that won a national championship with an offensive-minded head coach, almost all of them had an elite defensive mind as their DC. 2016 and 2018 Clemson had Brent Venables, 2013 FSU had Pruitt, 2006 and 2008 Florida had Charlie Strong, 2007 LSU had Bo Pelini, 2005 Texas had Chizik and Akina, 2002 Ohio State had Mark Dantonio, and 1999 FSU had Mickey Andrews.

Doesn't matter where you came from these days if you have the money you hire people to do this for you. Lincoln Riley, Ryan Day, Dabo, and O are better coaches than Saban. It is a damn shame how Saban is slowly running bama into the ground and bama fans just letting it happen. That is what happens when you build a statue before someone dies.
