I was there and the crowd was electric, not because it was Nick Saban we were playing against but in my honest opinion it was because of Croom being passed up as HC of Alabama earlier. It don't matter who you pull for but that was one of the greatest games.
Unfortunately, Saban has owned us ever since.
ETA: It became a defensive battle as the game went on.

I was there, first of 2 dead flat performances by a team that mentally collapsed after the late loss to LSU and a year of harsh program change from Saban.

U were fired up because Bama was a 7-6 team that year and u knew the game was a tossup. U also knew that was gonna be the last time for a long time u were gonna beat Bama.

Alabama dominated the first half and likely wins if not for JPW throwing a horrendous pick six at the end of the half.
The last time Miss State beat Alabama, though.

You just can't give MSU defense their due and allow our weak offense to find ways to win.

I know, right? You'd think in this, the time for holiday cheer, he would bend just a little.

Croom had back to back wins over Bama with a win over Saban. He alone accounted for nearly 12% of State's all time victories over Bama. Maybe, you should have held on to him.
But, to the game, I was deployed that football season and missed it... thank god
That was a talented enough Alabama team, but gawd dang did they ever up and quit after the LSU loss. The MSU loss completely fractured the locker room as some of the "leaders" failed to buy in to what Saban was doing. And, the ULM loss finally created the sense of urgency among the team and staff to cut out the cancers and move full force toward positive organizational change.
Sometimes you have to raze the building and start over from the foundation up if you want something that will last. We appreciate MSUs part in making that happen for us in 2007.

I remember the game well. As already referenced, Bama mailed it in post LSU. State came to play though and earned the W

I was at that LSU game. I thought we had them after that punt return. That was a heartbreaker.

That was 5 national championships ago. Nobody can remember that far back.

Was there. Good win for State. You should stop spamming the board with nonsense

I think the collapse had more to do with the Textbook 5 "scandal" and losing Antoine Caldwell, among others.

Shut the hell up you son of a bitch.

I was at that game. The pick six was a back breaker, but Terry Grant was never going to get it in rushing.

I knew this was gonna be the 2007 game before I even opened the thread.

That was 11 years ago. So much every Bama fan that is older than college age remembers it. John Parker Wilson and DJ Hall were both douchebags.

was there. That pick 6 to end the half was a great experience. Still remember being hoarse and coke/whiskey soaked after the game

Wasn't that the cropduster flyover game?

Croom was one of the rare occasions I really wanted an opposing hire to pan out. I'd met him a few times before hand and watched him as a player.
So sad that he ended up being a dud.

Meh. It all boiled down to a 100+ yard pick six on a horrible JPWilson pass on the last play of the half. Instead of Bama being up 12-3 or 16-3 at the half, they were down 10-9. Take away that one play and Bama wins.
