I think a Auburn is due for an 11-1 or 10-2 type season. The seem to do that about every 4 or 5 years. Won't shock me at all if it happens.

the last 3 times Auburn has won the West (2010, 2013, and 2017) Auburn did it with first-year QBs.

They were first year for Auburn. All of them played QB juco or for another team though. Correct?

You could also say Auburn is due for a team that quits on its coach that happens about every 7-9 years.

Correct. Gus has never had elite level success with his own QB at Auburn.

Newton had almost zero snaps at UF and one year of JUCO.

Marshall played DB at UGA and one year of JUCO.

Stidham was a direct sit-out-a-year transfer.... didn’t go the JUCO route. He had (if memory serves) 3 games as a starter at Baylor before he was injured and out for his freshman year.

So all of them had reps at a prior school as the starter for their team? The 2 best ones had a full season as starter?

Auburn will be what they’ve always been...an overachieving bunch of scrappers trying to keep up with Daddy 80 miles to the west. They’re historically an 8-5 program with the occasional miracle season to keep the delusion of being a bluebood SEC contender alive. This is documented in the record books and indisputable.

The record books have a segment that defines blue bloods or overachieving scrappers? Link?

Auburn has a good team this year, our coach just sucks and gets in the way.

Their 8-5 historical record is documented for you. Prove me wrong.

It is a Gus squad and its Auburn. I predict some unpredictable things will happen and I'll leave it at that.

I wouldn't make a bet on their record before a season starts if I was using someone else's money. You never can tell.

I was referencing the creative names you assigned to the nature of the stats. Historically we could have locked into games with Vandy and MSU instead of UTk and Florida and maybe we'd be a 9-10 win program...in the end only the trophies and rings matter.

Of course the win totals basically set the stage for the beauty pageant titles of the past so maybe Auburn should have chosen Vandy and MSU.

Anyone who knows SEC football knows this year is set up for the typical Auburn-contending-out-of-nowhere team. They had a relatively mediocre season last year, so expectations are not high. They have experienced lines on both sides of the ball. And they get UGA and Bama at home. When these three factors align, they always have their random really good years.

I think this could be one of those out-of-nowhere-west-champs type of season for Auburn.

It could also be a 6-6 type of season.

You just never know with Gus

This man gets it.

And its exactly how Auburn fans feel. No one has a clue which Gus we’ll see.

Answer this question...is it out of nowhere if literally everyone is saying Auburn has a great DL (maybe best in the nation) and strong returning OL and talent at every other position to win the SEC, etc?

The bottom line is simple. We open with Oregon who has the nations most talented QB, arguably. Then we have MSU and play A&M in short order with a trip to Baton Rouge on the back end. If we get through that without a loss or just one loss then Auburn will contend when we take on two of the most talented teams in the country at home late. If we struggle in that window with young QB's and a poor offensive identity (a Gus trademark) then this could be the quit on Gus season Auburn is famous for historically.

2015?

Or does "always" and "random" negate each other?

Yes I used some colorful language for literary effect - blame my useless journalism degree for that - but the statistics don’t lie. Auburn is a historically 8-5 program with 2 national championships in its 120-year history, one of which was won in 1957 while on probation (for paying players) and banned from postseason play, and another 53 years later with a controversial player who many believe was also paid. You can argue with my descriptive terminology, but you can’t dispute the record or the facts.
