Preseason practice for Georgia's beat writers is sort of sad. They're not even allowed to take pictures of practice anymore. Some days they get to see the first 5 or 10 minutes of practice and then they're corralled inside to a nerd holding room, and some days they don't even get that.

it's the same template. Basically all the beat writer do these days is get the quotes from Kirby and whatever players are made available and then use those. And then after that they just copy/paste something they wrote about whoever from months ago and present it as a new original article.

I don't have a strong emotional reaction about the whole thing one way or the other, but it's not like it used to be for fans trying to get their fix in August.

Heupel provides much more access than Pruitt. Pruitt was just like Kirby and practically gave them no access and rarely let anybody talk to the media except him.

Heupel let’s freshmen talk, all the coaches get their turns with the media regularly, and at least let’s them take videos and pictures. Not sure they get to see a ton of practice but he’s pretty open compared to most.

I kind of like our beat writers, Tarp over at 247, as for access, isn’t it all controlled by the team?

I know at A&M, the first 15 minutes of practice is open to the media, so the beat writers tend to focus on positions and give updates, I like it, we have a young OL/DL, new TE, QB, but in contrast, I believe horns have closed practice, no media allowed, it depends on the coach’s philosophy on giving media access to practice

A&M held a practice at Kyle Field today open to the fans and media.

They let media in for a small portion of practice daily, at least for fall camp. Over on TexAgs they post pictures and a 5-10 minute video daily. It’s mainly just position group work and limited team stuff, can’t really gather much from it.

It’s kind of like someone throwing you a cracker when you’ve been starving for 8 months. It’s not what you want or need, but at least it’s something.

Kirby has the media on double secret probation.

Lol, the beat writers at Georgia have resorted to texting with donors during the scrimmages in the stadium because the the beat writers aren't allowed in anymore.

"We heard that Willy Washington made a nice catch towards the end of the scrimmage."

"We heard that some of the freshman got pushed around by some of the upperclassmen."

Kirby and Pruitt locking down practices just like their mentor Saban. Definitely a preventative measure against “distractions” (beat writers doing their jobs and reporting on the teams)
